  1. I wont bore you with the details but there came a point in F1 where apart from a mistake being made by the driver ahead it was neigh on impossible for the following car to get close enough to attempt a pass so DRS was invented.

With the design of this years cars there are talks of doing away with it but as expected talks have split the teams with some for and others against the idea.

Yesterdays race was a damp squid until the track dried out.

Here's one of the first out on the canal this year, all done up ready for Easter week with what looks like a brand new set of mooring ropes.   After all, they have had two years laid up in their bases to make sure that they are fully maintained and well presented for the new season.

There was an article in the local paper back in January to say they had appointed a new manager at Trebes (where this came from) to oversee the re-opening of their base.  He said in the article that he came from Toulouse and was new to the hire boat business but "he knew the Canal du Midi".

If he does, he will know that the canal is under serious threat of losing its UNESCO World Heritage classification if tourism does not get back to normal.  This is hardly going to help!

When I think that it was Blue Line who saved the canal from closure back in the 70s and of all the work and effort that myself and my friends put into Crown Blue Line, to make it known as the most prestigious hire boat company in Europe (and so probably, in the World), all I can do is weep.

By the way there is nothing libellous in my posting this - it can be seen by anyone like me who drives by on the canal bank. A disgrace on the company ; a sad sight for anyone it passes and surely an embarrassment for those who have hired it, for more than 1500 this week and probably twice that in high season, when it won't look any different.

To whom do you blame, the owners or the new manager?

  3. Just heard from somebody with inside knowledge that even long standing buyers of red for boats now have to obtain a letter from HMRC stating that they are eligible to receive red and then forward a copy to the fuel supplier before a tanker will be despatched which may have caught some out.

Diesel forklifts and building site vehicles now have to have the fuel tanks flushed to remove the dye and use white diesel.

Watched this a few moments ago and thought it worth sharing. Lots of useful tips and, more importantly who to contact in different emergency/problematic circumstances.

Good idea to post and share it here where first timers or those returning after a few years might see and learn from watching it.

I wont comment on all details included within it out of fear of upsetting the more experianced member however being a cartoon it is easy to edit to keep it current and up to date when the time does come where face coverings are not recommended when talking to strangers close up (yep I still wear a mask when shopping).

Recently being 3 months ago when the going rate was £1.30 a litre ?

Thinking it was a couple of weeks back when Broom was around £1.90 and Swancraft was £1.55 at the time.

The toilets should’ve been top of the list for a refresh.  Obviously can’t speak for the ladies, but the gents was a looooong way short of salubrious.

All done according to local media, believe it is now the ladies in one bar and the gents in the other.

I fully understand your experiance especially as it would appear to be on contract with nominated suppliers and as if I read you correctly your company was probably in the highest user bracket apart from the national chains.

It is a long while since I have been involved but in the modest user bracket that boat yards would fall their is and will be room to manouver, I dont have time at the moment but if I do will try and find some examples but usually in this market it will be spot prices on individual orders, a Google search might throw something up.

A few weeks back prices were changing during the day as marina owners enquired about deliveries!

Stopping fuel deliveries and affecting its availability in the garages has a negative impact on peoples ability to go about their legal business, whether it be going to work or any other reason.  It may focus minds, but probably gains them little public sympathy.

    Much like the motorway protesters.

Sons and daughters of the upper class may explain a lot, but one would think that professional people would be able to understand that we cannot abandon fossil fuels at the drop of a hat.  Common sense would dictate that, surely?

Do they expect that though or is it a case of applying pressure to focus minds.

Motorway service fuel prices are just another tax on drivers..

Wouldnt call it a tax, more of a burden for a captive market. Savy folk plan ahead and find a place a few miles off a motorway to refuel the car and themself at better prices. There is a website just for this.

Traditionally Blakes and Hoseasons always set diesel prices to include consumables.  This is less relevant now of course, as we no longer have gas heating or gas fridges.

If I hire a car for a week the oil use is incuded. Sounds as if customers were being ripped off back then.

Bargain then.  Where Moonlight Shadow is moored, we pay a high price for diesel with no berth holders discount and the yard won’t sell us gas, as they require it for their fleet!

Time to move on then if they are being unhelpful to long standing customers such as MS.

In the 'old days' we'd be having this conversation in a pub 'putting the world to rights'. At this point someone would would pipe up with 'whose round is it', the conversation would pause while someone went to the bar and by the time they got back the conversation would have moved on. Are Norwich playing tonight?... Oh well at least I've got a full glass now.

I`ll have a pint of bitter with you, thanks :default_biggrin:

Then we could talk about Murphys Law, the one that says if it will go wrong it will go wrong at the worst possible moment.
