  1. We were up river and on the caravan site 2 pair of otters were playing in the kids playground messing with the slide. It was nice to see admitted but the devastation caused to thefish stoks, especially the big Chubb, Pike, and Barbell. They have only been in the river a few years but the bottom end of the Stour by the wier most of the bigger fish have vanished. It was j7st Jacks and small fry we were catching, a little down river tge week we were there someone had a 5lb Barbell but anything over the gilly was saying was few and far between. 2. I do not usually use a keepnet myself as a rule, but as we were having rough luck at most of the usual places we put the net in just so we could get a good shot to remember the holiday. I do not fish competitions and to be honest halfway through the session is when we emptied the net. I also wanted to show that although some of the older hotspots were not producing, that there are still a few places where you can get a good bag without encroaching on the angling club waters. You can't moor at the club waters along the rivers as they go mad like. I was just trying to show people who like a fish, there are still fish there. Regardless of the Otters and Cormerants I had a great day on the Staith. I was in Christchurch last year and all thr big barbell and chub had fallen foul to the wildlife introduced there. The only fish we managed to cath were too small for the wildlife there to worry about and any decend sized fish we saw were either being eaten or had been half eaten. If I have offended in my post in any way it was not intended. However we are back next year and hopfully we will get to the South Side for a change. Maybe we will have some luck there. Was interesting reading your views and comments. Mike. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
  3. Well its my 10th year on the Broads mostly on the North side and this year was no different. Just got home from an October week away on Summer Horizon with my father. We went to most of our old fishing haunts but found some of them were really disappointing. Horning and Paddy's Lane in particular where year after year so good for slabs but failed to bag any. Potter Higham was reasonable for skimmers as usal as was Sutton, only places we had a good bag. We had a night or two in the sticks but also found that disappointing. Off to the South side next year, am not really familiar with that part of the Broads. We had a great week anyway with problem free boating and would like to say Richardsons staff and Crew were great, as was our boat. We were just a little disappointed with the fishing. See you guys next year. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app

  5. Hi. I am Mike. Live in South Wales. Have been to the Broads a few times now rented Cottages and Boats. We are off in October on Summer Horizon picking up in Stalham for a week. Looking forward to getting back on the waterways and October cannot come soon enough. My favourite places are Horning, Cottishall and Potter Higham. Love the tranquility and peace the Broads has to offer. Have stayed in Beccles, Potter Higham and Horning,in Cottages but Horning is my favourite by far. Also hired Morning Light from Herbert Woods. This will be my 6th visit to the Broads and my Father umpteenth, he gave me the bug. Its just me and my dad this year as my mum just cannot manage getting on and off the boats any more. Gives me and dad a chance to have a good fish and check out tye quiter places to more and have a fish. We are also taking Olly Wally Dog, getting on a bit but a bug gentle giant of a retriever. He also loves the Broads. His favourite places are Womack and Loddon. Looking forward to getting back to the Broads to relax, fish and just generally enjoy the nature, tranquillity and fishing. 7. It can be awkward for both boater and fisherman. It can be really difficult navigating at times when you have anglers on the banks with their massive roach poles especially when there is a lot of traffic on the waterways. Both Angler and boater should have respect for one another and both angler and boater should be aware of the waterways rules and regulations. Unfortunately not everyone keeps to the rules and many just think rules are there to be broken. I love fishing but have also experienced the not so pleasant angler when boating. Mostly though my experience of the Broads has been pleasantly amazing but no matter where we go or what we do there will always be the awkward ones. Mike. 9. I personally feel a lot more people would visist during the closed season if fishing was allowed. Rentals are not so expensive and I for one could afford the prices then as I really am outpriced in the summer. Which only leaves out of hi holiday season for me for the fishing. I love the Broads but it can get a little nippy between October and March which is really the only times I am able to afford rentals. Prices are still reasonable between March and June and I feel many more fisherman would travel down and make use of the rental properties and boats if the closed fishing season was to open for anglers. 15. My father and me are coming for a boating holiday in October. We have been a few times, both in holiday cottages and on boats and it is really the best holidays I have ever had. Really looking forward to the fishing, as well as cruising the waterways. Well I thought I would pop in and say hi and although I have been to the Northern Broads before, I could do with a few pointers toward the better fishing on the waterways. Had a few hit and misses in the past. We have booked Summer Horizon from Richardsons so we will be mobile and able to search the recommendations you give. Our faithful friend Olly Wally dog a big fat retriever is coming too. He is a big softy and loves the walks along the waterways. Well, looking forward to seeing you soon and give us a wave if you spot us in October . Thanks, in advance. Mike. Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
