  3. Hi Kate I’d say our gardens are about 1month a head hear in Norfolk in February I had snowdrops and a forsythia and rhododendrons out all at once in a garden I work in very strange to see these together flowering it’s the warmer damp weather. Roy

I think places are starting to take advantage with these prices it bumps up the cost of a holiday as mentioned earlier I believe there’s a whole demographic of people that are not able to afford a broads holiday now that demographic are the average family with young children which is a knock on affect and will affect the broads for years to come as that family is a generation of children that won’t experience the broads and that won’t bring their children/families for a holiday on the broads. The way I see it the hire industry will be / is in decline and that will affect the private boat owners buy putting up more costs. ☹️
  5. Yes that very true Kate. my mum said she always knew I’d do a job that involved me being outside.
  6. I agree with you grace and Kate my mum brought me up like that being a 80s child we have limited technology lol I’ve always been an outdoor child thou I’d rather play outside than inside and now I’m working as a gardener/ garden designer so I’m always outside in nature and live every minute even though the weathers been a tad wet !

I’m reading through everyone’s holiday posts and the thing that I keep thinking is what will be broads be like in 40 years time already boats are struggling to reach coltishall and impossible to pass ph bridge unless you are in a day boat or a Martham boat. I’ve also been looking at the Broadland memories site at all the old pictures I wondered if anyone who had a holiday in the 60 s on the broads would have thought passing under wroxham bridge would be tricky Roy
  8. Hi I’m really enjoying your holiday tale /blog glad you enjoyed the bure valley railway if you happen to travel on there again it’s worth a short walk in to Aylsham lots of independent shops and nice cafes 😁 I’ve been lucky to drive some of the trains when I was younger and had more time. enjoy the rest of your trip. Flooding

Thanks that’s a interesting article when I was talking about potter bridge to someone (a engineer) the other week he suggested a lock just after HW entrance and after the bypass bridge so the water is lower around the bridge giving a steady clearance. my reply was great idea but BA wouldn’t pay for this could you imagine what the tolls would be if that happened. such a shame the broads seem to changing at a alarming rate how long is it before wroxham bridge is like potter ?
  10. Glad you brought mermaid as I was seriously considering having a look at her as I’m on the look out for a Hampton Safari but realistically I’m not ready to buy one but would have been very tempted ! so you ounce saved me the hard decision 😊 Enjoy your travels on her.
  11. I think generally wroxham by the river / park has been left to get over grown it needs a good tidy and regular maintenance.
  12. The meeting sounds like it was a ticking boxes task with no possible outcomes the Main reason nobody wants to dredge the lower bure is cost when both authorities have no money because its being spent on how should I say other interests ! To me the obvious plan would be to dredge dredge and dredge everywhere I quite fancy the drs job at the head of the authority but I think id not be popular with many non boaters.
  13. Yes I can remember the little man in the hut at brundall as a child I was mesmerised by that little hut they used. quite strange network rail always said they would never but a automatic barrier at brundall because of the hill down to it the automatic barrier wouldn’t stop a vehicle but I guess they are stronger now even thou they look flimsy.
  14. Thank you for you observations I found your original article interesting and informative I didn’t comment on the issue as I’m not a expert in this field but I’ve been through haven beige many times and the tide runs through that bridge something awful !!!
  15. I have started to wear a mask again now in busy small Venues I was in London for a gig last week and the mask was on all day I think the covid lock downs has made me see large areas full of people very differently intact it took some talking to my self to make me go but I did go. i am so used to being outside in the fresh Norfolk air and it’s certainly been fresh this last week!
  16. Thank you for your write up especially at this time of the year! lovely to see how settled pozzick is on the boat he’s grown in to a lovely looking dog too.
  17. Yes the stag (bell ) is quite small as mentioned the garden is big out the back to the left of the pub garden was the bowling green my grandad used to be the green keeper. salhouse is one of my favourite easy days out walk to the broad followed by a picnic there and now the stag is open a look at the old bowling green and a look at the house my mum grew up in. As ever enjoying your travels thanks Roy

    Richardsons

Just looked at the plan didn’t see it before first comment. it looks very well planed out and a good use of the space hope it all goes to the plan as it looks like a nice day out by the river and maybe a way to get some younger people interested in the broads.

I think they will out shop most of the laundry and I guess the boat maintenance could be done in one shed with a much reduced hire fleet which I guess will come a few years down the line. must admit it would be nice that there’s something at acle as I think the site at the minute looks very run down especially first impressions on people picking a boat up a bridge craft.
  20. Yes Kate the wind has the same effect on me to glad it’s not just me.
  21. The last two years the weather’s definitely turned more violent i work out side have done for 20 years and I’ve noticed since 2022 the weathers been more volatile the hot long dry 2022 and all 2023 has been is wet and windy bar 2weeks of heat in June and 3fairly settled weeks from end of august. 2023 has been the year I’ve had mist down days due to the weather just can’t get on as ground too wet ! one thing I really don’t like us all the winds we keep having.
  22. Hi Kate I’m enjoying your thread as usual I think the BA should install more floating pontoons I know they will need maintenance but the tides wouldn’t cause more maintenance like all the moorings you have just mentioned plus there would be no grit if they were made from recycled plastic materials. Roy
  23. Thanks that’s a shame it’s not used anymore
  24. Nice to see the old bell back open. do you know if the bowling green behind/next to it is still used just asking as my grandad used to be the green keeper in the 50/60s when he and my mum lived in the village.
  25. Looking through a lot of old broads hire boat magazines lots of boats say they’ll pass under wroxham many that wouldn’t pass under there today.
