  1. Hi Folks, as above I could use some pointers towards boats/cruisers that would fulfill this kind of remit. Sadly my knowledge of 'whats what' is somewhat out of date, my folks had a Broom 30 at Brundall until '80/81, and after that I had no cause to follow what was happening in the world of 30-40ft cruisers. Now we're looking to ease towards retirement with (probably) a move to the area, and more definitely a return to boating. But as my wife pointed out we really need to think aboit a boat which will afford easy'ish freeboard access. The issue being that we have a couple of hounds (small greyhound size), which from time to time would I imagine join us. Whats the rough remit? Price wise i guess £25-50k( abs pain threshold, so less preferred). Usage. More likely day use with occasional overnights. Must have a sep cabin, ideally 2 cabins - infact first thoughts were nostalgic, a Broom/Ocean 30/35/37 type with aft cabin. But clearly that's unllikely to work as getting the dogs (however occasionally) onto that kind of boat, and then up to the outside helm area/down into the main saloon will be more than a challenge. So 1 permanent cabin, a decent size/comf sitting area inside, and space enough for the hounds to doze. Most likely rivers only, capable of getting under Ludham bridge as a must. At some stage if all goes well, would have liked the option of being able to do some coastal hops, but that is debatable/to be negotiated with Mrs. Do like outside helm positions, i'd rather put a coat on than go inside! So 'hard tops'/sedan style are a def 'no no', an aft cockpit say Ocean 30 with full canvas canopy would work, but if i didn't have the dogs to consider, i'd be thinking after cabin, plus 2nd/outside helm position. Oh, and not a fan of sliding canopies, i don't mind getting wet, but not at the expense of the living area getting soaked. So, taking that into account, knowing that something of an Ocean 30 style could work, but that an aft cabin 'whatever' would (dogs aside) be perfect - what suggestions do you folks have of marques/models that I ought to look into? And as a follow up, with any older boat of say mid 70's vintage, are there likely to be issues sourcing parts/spares for engine issues/servicing etc? FWIW i'm not a very good tinkerer, maybe that'll change when i start to have a bit more time on my hands, but i'm not mechanically minded. Thanks all. ps/ Have told my folks that whilst I appreciated having been brought up with boats in the family of all denominations - culimating in narrowboats, that they have scarred me for life, and left me with a need to 'get back to it'.
