Please correct me if I'm wrong has this is going to be close for me also with an air draft of 8ft6" with all the weather we could have in between now and when I get to stalham with regards to ludham bridge height Datum of Yarmouth Bar is 4hrs in front of ludham bridge so ie if low water at yarmouth bar is 07:47 then that would be 11:47 according to ba tide table and location
And in previous topics grendel has measured the bridge to 8ft with the concrete path showing
Kind regards scott

I see in the EDP that the BA will be sponsoring "dark sky magic" guided walks around How Hill in late September and October, when paying guests will get the chance to see "glow-worms, owls and other creatures".
Hmm . . .
Pity that according to the Wildlife Trust's website, glow-worms glow in June and July. One flash of a torch and that will put the owls off as well.
Perhaps I am a bit mischievous but I just have a vision of certain well-known forum members (who shall be nameless) staggering about the How Hill gardens in the pitch dark looking for glow-worms.
Doesn't sound like health and safety to me!
Vaughan where is this please or do we know if its running mid-late Oct so I can take the kids they would love this thanks scott

All bridges have a height gauge some distance before them. All hire boats should have the clearance needed on a plaque near the helm or in the skippers manual. There should never be a need to eye a bridge up for clearance. Although some hire yards may err on the side of caution when quoting the clearance needed and some of the bridge height gauges might be set to allow a margin of error, never take a chance. Go by the quoted clearance needed and the height gauge and if there is not enough clearance wait even if you think there might just be enough room, because you also might just scrape or just get stuck under the bridge.
Oh I know exactly what you mean by this I'd never jeopardise the boat in anyway shape or form I'll always err on the side of safety better being safe than sorry

I know when we come for two weeks in Oct and air draft at 8ft6" if I can't use St olaves I'll head to Reedham down the cut onto Oulton broad that way just pay alittle attention to the bridge marker before the split just after breydon but in my eyes being a hirer if in a high air draft boat it's down to planning the tides and getting right for the lower bridges and if it looks low or close just use your eye if possible to the highest part of the boat if in any doubt about possible damage easier and safer to turn around and either wait or find a different route but that's just me

Never thought about it like that before pre cook and freeze it for they boat then reheat it thanks for the idea

A 200w slow cooker will pull about 22amps out of the battery per hour. A typical battery bank for the inverter will be 220amp hours. So, a 7 hour cook will take around 75% of the battery power. If you're running the engine during this, the drain will be less, but remember, your battery bank is not a limitless supply of power and the shorter days lead to longer nights when you will probably want power for the TV.
Things to seriously think about. A call-out to the boatyard for flat batteries is a drain on everyone's energy.I'll use the slow cooker while moving and hopefully moor where there is a electric post if I've planned my 2 weeks out right plan a and plan b 😉 I should be on a post in Oct
I understand the battery's draining a far bit I will use it but only a few times but on a post I hope don't want to unnecessarily call the engineers out

Hoseasons, Barnes Brinkcraft and Herbert Woods all give 10% off with the 'Blue Light Discount' scheme for emergency workers, I suspect the other yards probably do as well?
We've actually just recently booked with Herbert Woods taking advantage of the 10% multi-week discount, in addition to the Blue Light Card 10% discount. All in all, almost £200 off the holiday which I thought was a good deal! £998 for 11 nights in October.Same here we got 15% off our multiweek so 2 weeks in Oct 18th plus our 2nd holiday with rico's this year and a further 20% off and on board commander so a bonus has it will keep my youngest safe with his disabilities oneway out passed me on the flybridge keep downstairs locked

You would have thought maybe cut price 🤔 so atleast they make a few hundred quid instead of it not making sitting there

it will depend whether you are using any form of heating run off shore power
Possibly take the oil radiator with us or both if them that way there's no noise or minor noise with heater running at night
-
I especially thought I'd use more in Oct with the earlier nights and the not to disturb anyone with running the engine
