  1. My thoughts and prayers are with Bobby and his family.
  2. “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.”
  3. Sleeping arrangements and pricing are easy to find, as for the yards i don't think there is a bad one, there are however bad experiences. for every person that has a horror story about a yard there will be another who thinks they are marvellous. Sorry that is of no help, but it's truly the way I've found things to be, I've had problems with hire boats but every yard has always responded well when called.
  4. My problem with anybody creating excessive wash/speed are the hidden dangers, often whilst doodling at normal speed it is only at the last minute that I have spotted the small child with his fishing net hidden in the bank. The excessive wash that I have seen from a few irresponsible boaters would definitely swamp them, and possibly cause them to fall in. The rules are there to protect the innocent, if you don't want a fine don't break them.
  5. When people discuss how the BA are funded it shows how lies can become the truth, yes it is true that toll payers are contributing about 50%, the rest is from the NP. Where do the NP get their money, oh yes the taxes paid by the toll payers.
  6. "In 2016, car occupants accounted for 46 per cent of road deaths, pedestrians 25 per cent, pedal cyclists 6 per cent and motorcyclists 18 per cent. The number of car occupant fatalities increased to 816, up 8 per cent compared with 754 in 2015; the number of pedestrian deaths increased to 448, up 10 per cent from 408 in 2015; the number of pedal cyclists killed increased to 102, up 2 per cent from 100 in 2014; but the number of motorcycle users killed decreased by 13 per cent from 365 in 2015 to 319 in 2016. " "60 per cent of all fatalities occur on country roads Three people die each day on average on country roads and the number of people killed on country roads is nearly 10 times higher than on motorways. In 2014, there were 1,040 fatalities and 9,051 serious injuries on country roads. A third of the fatalities occurred on a bend. The above facts are for information, it might shock some to see how many people die on our roads, hopefully it will make some think.
  7. I wonder why stories like this always look for someone to blame, I am someone who always wears a life jacket on the boat or during mooring, however, if leaving the boat for shopping or going to the pub I don't, and have never seen anyone who does. I wouldn't blame anyone for the lack of a ladder or chains, yet it does seem clear that such things would have been useful so it is a lesson learnt rather than blame. As for falling in, has anyone else apart from me fallen or tripped over on dry land, I know I have and feel sure I'm not the only one. Hope the guy is ok and continues to enjoy his boating.
  8. I know what you mean Grendel I am also challenged in the follicle department, unfortunately I'm also challenged vocally which is why I admire acapella so much, incredible to think that such a beautiful sound comes from just voices.
  9. With everything Grendel does, modelling, astronomy, work he even finds time to sing in a acapella group. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXQpDDcrN-w
  10. I've always thought that using Sutton staithe or Barton Broad as a start point, a new river could be cut through to Hickling. It could go via Catfield Common even using a lot of existing channels (river ant) that run in that area.
  11. Earlier this year I hired a boat (with Happy, another forum member) from Ely on the great Ouse, everywhere we went had plenty of moorings, all were free, all were very well maintained, all were either 48 or 72 hrs, it was quite novel not having to look for somewhere early afternoon.
  12. I seem to have been plagued by false widow spiders this year in the garden, apparently they are the most venomous British spider, technically they aren't native but have been around for over a hundred years and spreading fast.

  14. At the risk of taking this off thread, many bacteria live on or in the body, a lot of which are good bacteria. When on a course of antibiotics these good bacteria can also be wiped out, it is thought this can lead to a lowering of the immune system, asthma, obesity, cancer, all believed to be fought of by the good bacteria, as well as problems with bloating and constipation as bacteria help in the digestion of food. It is advised by many that after antibiotic treatment people should have a period of probiotic drinks to help replenish the good bacteria, unfortunately there are others who think the loss is permanent.
  15. The star rating is a matter of choice, if you want to take notice you can, if you don't you're free to ignore it, surely it's better to have that choice than no choice at all.
  16. If people were given the choice would they go for a 5 star hospital or 3.
  17. Dropping Jägermeister into beer was always the original way of drinking it, not surprising as it's a fad that started in Germany, Redbull is just another modern variation.
  18. I think when the younger generation refer to shots they commonly mean the Jagerbomb, this is where you get a shot of Jägermeister and a pint of beer, the shot (including the glass) is then dropped into the beer . Sometimes the beer will be replaced by a glass of Redbull and the shot dropped into this.
  19. I don't mean this in a sarcastic way and apologise if it sounds that way, but if as stated above Sky costs between £50 and £150, that would be enough to go and watch it live several times a month. I watch live football every week of the season, far more exciting than watching on a television.
  20. RIP Jill, Like many I had sadly never met you in person, but your posts where always bright, informative, and most importantly friendly, I can never remember you having a bad word for anyone. My thoughts are with you and your family.
  21. The ability to drive safely in a 30 mph zone is irrelevant, it's more about the child who suddenly steps out from behind a parked car, that's why limits are now being reduced to 20 mph, even at 30 mph a lot of children will still die.

  23. Can anyone remember Twizzle, he had a friend of ethnic origin whose face was white, he was called chalky, couldn't imagine getting away with that today.
