  1. Get a hammar action, they don't go off in damp conditions. When servicing and checking the bladder use an air pump to inflate not your breath or you fill the bladder with condensation.
  2. Are you going to hang a roll of copper wire on the hook? Or a cash machine?
  3. I'm not sure this is really what you meant to say? Blimey! The things people wish for to keep themselves in a job!
  4. This thread made me check my own dogs tags, both mobile phone numbers are partly worn away so time for replacement and the landline on it is no longer in use, I would suggest other dog owners do the same as it's so easy to just assume the dog is well marked, at least the microchip won't have worn away. Complacency is way too easy.
  5. Does anyone know if the dog is chipped? I hope she finds her way home soon.
  6. So that kind of means I'm not calling you stupid in any way, you have chosen a way that works for you and have a system that works for your boat layout and length, you are still here to tell the tale so darwinism still applies. The original post was about coiling ropes neatly on the bow which in my mind means going out on the bow to fetch a rope tied to one end of the boat, thats a lot of messing about to only have half control of the boat as you step ashore.
  7. Bow ropes cut so don't reach prop often make crap springs when you want want a good scope, I can see why hire boats don't reach but privates should maybe learn better rope care and not have a reason to whinge about tidal ranges, it's you're own boat and it's on tidal water so it pays to learn about these things. We started on locked inland rivers so 1.5 times boat length for ropes always made sense for the locks and if you got a rope around a prop it was down to personal stupidity, it's basic darwinism really if you can't be bothered to learn the science about your chosen past-time.
  8. Take all ropes back to the cockpit so you can step off with full control of the boat and you can see they are no where near the props. Sod tidy....
  9. When I had an outboard powered boat I went down the 4 blade route and also found it much better for low speed manouvering with no loss of power at full throttle, stainless steel developments is where I went for the new one.
  10. Yes it is water fed from the raw water circuit.
  11. Split bellows won't sink you with enfield outdrive legs either, once again the swivel hub in the transom is fully bearinged and sealed, I heard of one boat nearly sinking from the steering gaiter but it should never have been that low in the water to start with, probably full of rainwater before the gaiter come into play.

Back on topic.... I would imagine the hire fleet get enough use to keep the diesel throughput high enough to disperse most of the water build up, the dreaded diesel bug only grows at the diesel/water interface in the tank, it's the occaisional use private boat most likely to suffer the problem after a good shake up. I got towed into kings lynn by the skegness lifeboat once with a fuel blockage, annoyingly I'd only just welded the tanks up and had it clean enough to hoover the insides with the same hoover that does the house and only filled up the once, but the marina we bought fuel from had changed hands and the tank was full of crud due to lack of maintenence for some time (gits!) so not always down to boat neglect.
  13. Great piccie, I'm jealous I didn't see it myself! We saw a squirrel swimming across the river by postwick viaduct a couple of years ago that caught me out, I'd never imagined a squirrel would swim a river.
  14. That rule has no chance, I've just bought a boat with twin tmd41a volvos, you don't want to be behind it for a cold start..... As for the froghorn, why do you need a randy frenchman to go through a bridge????
  15. That top can be lifted off but it's too cumbersome to be practical. It gets under all bridges except PH,wroxham, wayford at most states of tide, and pretty as they are the tail end of navigations are outweighed by the capability of trips to southwold/wells/orford/woodbridge/ipswich/walton/brightlingsea/bradwell/maldon/kings lynn/boston/hull/york/nottingham/cambridge, thats just the ones we've done in it and I've never put it on a trailer yet, it don't get there fast but it's always got there. Theres still the dinghy on the back for day trips past bridges, I've done most ends of navigation with it.
  16. Sod wednesday, I'm hanging out for friday when my new toy gets surveyed so I can finalise the deal, can't wait to go through reedham at 20+ knots......
  17. Not sure if this is the right place to post, sure the mods will move it if needed. My RLM 31 is now up for sale, does broads and sea, will be sad to see it go. http://apolloduck.net/441828
  18. I wasn't going to bother watching till that comment, now I'm tempted, may still not bother but a nice bum may just clinch the deal....... Is there any other nice features to really convince me?
  19. I was once told by a BSS examiner about shore power, he said there are 2 types of shore power user, those that have dropped mains power tools into the river, and those that will drop mains power tools into the river.... I am still the second type (so far).
  20. No indian summer this year, more of an iraqi summer. Partly sunni but mostly shi-ite! I'll get my coat.......
  21. Why can't AJB have been the magistrate when I got done for speeding....... Thanks AJB it's good to have some perspective on this.
  22. If the 13A end is in your boat who's going to know the difference, it's not the best or accepted way to do it but as long as you have the socket end where it's definately not going to get wet, even better one with RCD built in. I have various adaptors for my shore power lead including a 32A plug to 16A socket for when only 32A sockets are unused, I have 13A plug to 16A socket for that is the option available, if you know about electrical safety why not, if you don't then stick to the rules that are there to protect you from your own ignorance, let common sense prevail. I'm going to get shot down in flames on this I know but I don't care.....
  23. I'm confudled! Whats peoples views on changing usernames? I'm in the process of buying a new boat which will obviously result in me selling existing boat, current boatname is my username, how confusing will that get when I'm running around in a different boat and someone else is running around in Leo? Other side is someone else takes on the username and gets blamed for all my stupid ramblings over the years, poor sod! I suppose I'd better wait to see how the survey on the new toy goes first before getting carried away. Mmmm which way to go????????? I think it needs contemplating over beer! Mmmmmm beer!
