  1. Just a dusting in SE Kent yesterday. It had gone by 10am.
  2. I remember watching wine expert Jancis Robinson interviewing the Butler at one of the Oxford colleges about how he buys wine for their many and various feasts and functions. He said that, for red wine, as long as the alcohol level was 13% or more you could be reasonable sure that a level of care had been taken in the growing and vinification process and you could expect the wine to be of a decent quality. Not managed to prove him wrong yet.
  3. Turns out the Frontera was basically an Isuzu MU with a Vauxhall badge on it. MU stands for Mysterious Utility according to Wikipedia.
  4. Reminds me of a Vauxhall Frontera that I was once considering as a company car. I was given the car over a weekend by way of a test drive and decided to take it "off-road" to test it's capabilities. I got 2 wheels onto the grass and the overhead interior light popped out of its mounting and ended up dangling on its cables next to my left ear. Needless to say, I chose a Citroen XM instead.
  5. And after you have wound the audio handle and heard the birds, does Packman come on, chanting "13% and a tenner for Ranworth".
  6. Congratulations to Mike, who won the quiz last night by a margin of 2 points from NikO and SwanR who tied for second place.
  7. Totally forgot that it was pancake day yesterday. Pity because I quite like a good pancake - especially the ones you get in Brittany and Normandy with bacon and eggs in them.
  8. I am QM on Friday 24th Feb and have decided to to make it a general knowledge quiz. 40 questions on a wide range of subjects with a break at half-time. Hopefully something for everyone so please come and join us at around 8.30pm on Friday. log in here;-https://www.nbnplus.co.uk/chat/ no password needed, all welcome. We will kick off the questions shortly after 8.30pm Friday,
  9. Meat with lots of fat. Reminds me of the sausages I used to buy from Bradford market for 20p a pound in my student days.
  10. We'll be waking ours up in 2-3 weeks time. Hopefully by then the beast (if it comes) will have gone back to the east. If not, we will leave the tube heaters on and the taps open when we leave the boat.
  11. Forgot to say that Mike won on Friday, by a clear margin, having got lucky on the novelty songs round. Congratulations Mike and we look forward to your quiz on Friday. It's been a hectic weekend.
  12. Topics for tomorrow's quiz will be as follows: Novelty Songs from the past Hidden Norfolk Link Words Half time break Food and Drink National Geographical General Mayhem log in here;-https://www.nbnplus.co.uk/chat/ no password needed, all welcome. We will kick off the questions shortly after 8.30pm Friday 10th January.
  13. We've walked most of the Weaver's Way in stages over the year but have not done the Thurne to Halvergate section. Gonna have to do it now.
  14. Hmm so a thread calling for reform of the Broads Authority turns largely into a critique and debate on the rights and wrongs of Facebook. Methinks we boaters get what we deserve.
  15. Saturday 20th - day only. SteveO and NikO Windmill Lady.
  16. Am I right in thinking that the last time BA had a little trouble balancing the books they dispensed with the services of the mooring person at Ranworth? This being the case, there is no earthly justification for introducing a mooring charge other than naked profiteering.
  17. The Black Horse at Hoveton St John. Only Broads pub I know where you could order rabbit pie and the beer was good too.
  18. We circumvent the problem by having chicken instead. Neck stuffed wth sausage meat, whole bird covered with streaky bacon and an onion and a halved lemon in t'other end. Bird was cooked in an hour and a half and was succulent and tasty. It fed five and a half people and there's enough left over for Nik to make one of her famous Christmas pies on the 27th - pluse a pan of delicious stock from the carcase, which I will use as a base for soup.
  19. Family committments will most likely stop us from joining.
  20. Tha chatroom looks to be in fine order now Arthur. Sincere thanks for getting it back up and running.
  21. We only just made it with ours the Monday before the really cold stuff arrived. I hope nothing is damaged as a result of this. In my view it is always best to flush with anti-freeze, even though we have tube heaters on a thermostat as well.
