  1. I understand some Chinese items are surprisingly well made and reliable. Further, they don't carry the high prices the better known versions have. 😀
  2. I am reluctant to question your last post but is not CO also an issue with gas cookers, especially if combustion has a yellow flame?
  3. No CC, don't give them that escape route. Instead, it's about time they did the dredging to reinstate those self admitted clearances
  4. There's a flow chart that may help. Is clearance enough? No, go into pub and wait. Yes, go into pub and celebrate.
  5. I think we knew this was coming for the last couple of weeks, but very sad all the same. Condolences to all. John.
  6. I hate to worry you but what you describe exactly match the symptoms my heater demonstrated. Peachments quoted nearly £900 to fix (If memory serves me correctly) That's why I went the Chinese route. So far so good with that btw.
  7. Wonderful, I hope it arrives safely.
  8. OK, confession time. Many people say "I'm terrible with names, but I never forget a face" Sadly I'm terrible with both! This problem means I see people who recognise me, yet I honestly have absolutely no idea who they are. Rod (B52) is a classic case in point. I met him many many times, even visiting his boat before I was able to recognise him. I don't know if I can call this a recognisable disability, but it's certainly an embarrassing one. This evening I was in the Swan Inn Stalham and trying to make a fuss of a small Jack Russell. It's owner referred to me as "Maurice Mynah " , sadly I was unable to respond in kind as I was unable to recognise him nor the group he was in. By some coincidence Rod came in and joined them. I am well aware that this can make me appear to be the worst kind of snob, only recognising people when it suits me, but please, that is not the case, I genuinely have great difficulty with recognition. If it was you in the Swan please tell me and accept my apologies, I'm most embarrassed about this and have little idea how to improve my situation. I am a snob (decanters, lead crystal glasses etc.) but not in this case.
  9. Yes dredger, I believe you're right. Not Dad's Army, but carry on whatever. Ps, my winch is a Lewmar, with no freefall.
  10. May I ask the dimensions and the wattage please.
  11. I wish all of you, the strength to get through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  12. Well, I've read this thread and to be honest have been very surprised by many of the comments on it. Richardson's aren't new boys on the block and I can't help thinking they may well have some vague idea of what they are about. They are investing in the Broads. That alone should make us happy, keeping the Broads as a holiday destination is essential.
  13. Yes, I wonder what they'd have called it.
  14. Pretty much agree with you there Dom. By the time I'm done I'll have 3 fixed detectors close to the heater itself and one movable one. I'm intrigued that I'm advised to test with a petrol vehicle, it's almost like diesel doesn't give off enough CO.
  15. How will I know if it's a good one?
  16. The test only checks the alarm, not the digital readout. This morning I placed the alarm right next to the heater and the exhaust system for 15 minutes, with the heater running full on. CO sensor still read 0.
  17. I have a question about CO alarms, of which I have two. These alarms have LCD displays, I believe showing parts per million of carbon monoxide. Both units are displaying "0". Now, I realise that this is a good thing, but if either showed a varying very low figure, I would at least know the display was working. So my questions are, How many parts per million represents a safe background count, and where can I get some CO to test the units. This Chinese heater seems to be useless at providing any.
  18. Right, heaters. It has long been a belief of mine that although some Chinese imports are cheap and shoddy, others are cheap from being sold without quality checking with a resulting high proportion of failures being sold to customers. I'm pleased to report that the heaters come under that second category. When my heater arrived, several people (experienced with heaters) had a look at it some actually commenting positively on the build quality. The device was installed. After about four uses, it failed. This was not, by me, unexpected. I purchased a second unit so total price so far £300. Using parts from the second unit my fitter found it to be the thermostat that had failed. I have purchased some CO alarms to place near the unit and where I sleep. This I was going to do anyway so am not including in the running total costs. So thus far I have the heater installed (but not used as I'm still parrot sitting) and an almost full set of spares. The next steps are that I shall purchase a replacement thermostat. If my heater keeps blowing them, I shall install the spare heater. The build quality is such that I'm prepared to continue down this route for a while. I'm using the Eberspatcher exhaust equipment, which fits this unit so I'm content with that. Thus far I've been unable to find anything that justifies the price of the Eberspatcher equipment.
  19. Never a truer word. Though the parrot is no longer speaking to me
  20. OK not much to say just yet. I'm dog/parrot sitting at the moment, but will give a full report later.
  21. The Berney Arms will never make anyone rich, but if run by an owner there is a pleasant living to be made. If a tenant is in there, rent has to be low or at least affordable for the place to offer a living.
  22. I hate to imagine the "low flying teddy" count at Oulton Broad this evening. I've just watched Anglia news talking about the National Park , the Norfolk Broads. I reckon Peter must be running out of blood vessels to burst.
  23. Here I am house/parrot/dog sitting. Thanks for the weather updates folks, most useful.
