  1. Trust me Grendel, thermal long-johns and shorts is not a good look.
  2. It reminds me of the engine I used to have on a previous boat. That one was blue too.
  3. I tried going south for the winter, but I didn't find Reedham much better.
  4. Sound advice if ever I've heard any.
  5. Warning to all. My boat is surrounded by ice and it's ice from here to the wetshed. It's also snowing. Very pretty, very cold.
  6. So, back to the Chinese heater. It's now being used in anger for about 12 hours a day. I give it about an hour on full to get things warm then half power to maintain the temperature. I have been doing that for a week now. I do turn it off if I go out, but I would do that whatever the make. Pros, cons and conclusions so far. Pros. ... total outlay £300 plus fitting for brand new unit. More user friendly control panel. Cons. Pump is noisy but I'm getting used to that. Conclusions. Only time will tell if this has been a good move overall but for now, I'm happy. It should be remembered that all the fittings are from the original Eberspatcher unit and that the exhaust and fuel feeds are therefore tried and tested. I would be reluctant to use those supplied with the Chinese heater which do indeed look cheap and cheerful.
  7. I understand some Chinese items are surprisingly well made and reliable. Further, they don't carry the high prices the better known versions have. 😀
  8. I am reluctant to question your last post but is not CO also an issue with gas cookers, especially if combustion has a yellow flame?
  9. No CC, don't give them that escape route. Instead, it's about time they did the dredging to reinstate those self admitted clearances
  10. There's a flow chart that may help. Is clearance enough? No, go into pub and wait. Yes, go into pub and celebrate.
  11. I think we knew this was coming for the last couple of weeks, but very sad all the same. Condolences to all. John.
  12. I hate to worry you but what you describe exactly match the symptoms my heater demonstrated. Peachments quoted nearly £900 to fix (If memory serves me correctly) That's why I went the Chinese route. So far so good with that btw.
  13. Wonderful, I hope it arrives safely.
  14. OK, confession time. Many people say "I'm terrible with names, but I never forget a face" Sadly I'm terrible with both! This problem means I see people who recognise me, yet I honestly have absolutely no idea who they are. Rod (B52) is a classic case in point. I met him many many times, even visiting his boat before I was able to recognise him. I don't know if I can call this a recognisable disability, but it's certainly an embarrassing one. This evening I was in the Swan Inn Stalham and trying to make a fuss of a small Jack Russell. It's owner referred to me as "Maurice Mynah " , sadly I was unable to respond in kind as I was unable to recognise him nor the group he was in. By some coincidence Rod came in and joined them. I am well aware that this can make me appear to be the worst kind of snob, only recognising people when it suits me, but please, that is not the case, I genuinely have great difficulty with recognition. If it was you in the Swan please tell me and accept my apologies, I'm most embarrassed about this and have little idea how to improve my situation. I am a snob (decanters, lead crystal glasses etc.) but not in this case.
  15. Yes dredger, I believe you're right. Not Dad's Army, but carry on whatever. Ps, my winch is a Lewmar, with no freefall.
  16. May I ask the dimensions and the wattage please.
  17. I wish all of you, the strength to get through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  18. Well, I've read this thread and to be honest have been very surprised by many of the comments on it. Richardson's aren't new boys on the block and I can't help thinking they may well have some vague idea of what they are about. They are investing in the Broads. That alone should make us happy, keeping the Broads as a holiday destination is essential.
  19. Yes, I wonder what they'd have called it.
  20. Pretty much agree with you there Dom. By the time I'm done I'll have 3 fixed detectors close to the heater itself and one movable one. I'm intrigued that I'm advised to test with a petrol vehicle, it's almost like diesel doesn't give off enough CO.
  21. How will I know if it's a good one?
  22. The test only checks the alarm, not the digital readout. This morning I placed the alarm right next to the heater and the exhaust system for 15 minutes, with the heater running full on. CO sensor still read 0.
  23. I have a question about CO alarms, of which I have two. These alarms have LCD displays, I believe showing parts per million of carbon monoxide. Both units are displaying "0". Now, I realise that this is a good thing, but if either showed a varying very low figure, I would at least know the display was working. So my questions are, How many parts per million represents a safe background count, and where can I get some CO to test the units. This Chinese heater seems to be useless at providing any.
