  1. The Genie appeared and said you can have one wish. Alladin, who was wise, knew that the Genie was wicked and wishes often had unintended consequences. So he tried to think of something that would mean he was rich forever. He thought long and hard, and then said, Genie, I wish you give me £1 every time someone posts on the internet “But it’s not a National Park” The Genie, laughed, realising he had been outwitted. Congratulations Alladin, said the Genie, you will be rich for ever.
  2. Ah, I’ve run aground all over the Broads. It’s a perennial hazard of sailing. But this thread isn’t about that. It’s about The Bure Hump. Is it unreasonable to ask where the thing is? The claim is it is affecting the whole system. If it exists, and up till now I had assumed it did then it must show up in depth surveys. Or perhaps it was having a day off when the survey boat came by.
  3. Are you sure it’s not the Loch Ness Monster on his holidays?
  4. But the survey of the river bed doesn’t show it? Can someone explain this?
  5. Still confused. Where is it? What What3words are you saying it is?
  6. So where is the hump. Am I being stupid? If there’s a hump shouldn’t it show up on the depth survey?
  7. It’s not very obvious is it? Looking up and down the river there seem to be lots of other places the same depth. What makes it special?
  8. If the new bridge slows water flowing out of the system on the ebb tide, then it MUST slow water flowing into the system on the flood tide. An expert could tell us how much these 2 effects cancel out, but it seems likely it must be quite a lot. See also, “the Bure hump stops water flowing out of the Broads”
  9. Less than a week to go - weather looks OK. lots of interest on the Internet.
  10. This is really worrying. The Smokehouse at Wroxham station is also said to have closed its doors. Can’t help feeling that this winter will see a few more go. Use your pub or it may be gone.
  11. Classic Broads internet Ill-informed allegation against BA Widespread outrage. Why-oh-why? Facts emerge. Climbdown. Repeat ad nauseam
  12. Yeah. The Broads are awful. Don't know why people come. Nightmare
  13. For anyone who wants to watch, the Womack moorings are not available for the whole day. The Womack dyke moorings will be busy, but the parade will pass by twice, once unlit and once lit. There is no trip round the back of the island as it was too hazardous. A few boats can mud weight on Womack, but space will be very limited so id get there very early Potter Bridge should be closed so that is a great place to watch, as well as the banks around Womack Staithe will be busy
  14. There's a lot more info on the Facebook page... But for those who don't... The parade leaves Womack in daylight. Lights up just before Potter and then returns to Womack There are car parks at Ludham and Potter Heigham. £5 for parking There will be music and dancing at Potter and a Band playing on Womack Staithe.
  15. Entries are invited for the Ludham Illuminated Boat parade. Boat entry is free. Email foscludham@gmail.com for an entry form
  16. Not sure about this. It was only 10 days ago we had Berney Arms hasn’t been mown. But by the time I read that I’d seen them mow it 3 days before….. Is it possible that sometimes things get a bit long before they get cut? Does everything have to be such a drama?
  17. We swim all the time. Life is for living.
  18. Totally different? Really? If there’s a mooring assistant aren’t they rather similar?
