  1. Going from beds to heating and all of us agreeing that comfort is everything! We fitted a propex heater in a 20ft narrow canal cruiser years ago and it was very efficient in such a small area, but am not sure how it would perform on the wider broads boats. SueH
  2. Gracie. You are a girl after my heart. When it comes to organisation etc it is definitely me that is the boss. But don't tell 'himself'. SueH
  3. Welcome to the Forum. I know you will find the information you are looking for. and I hope you enjoy the meet. SueH
  4. I'm envious! SueH PS - I've just noted that this is my 50th post. S
  5. Hi Grace. How did the visit go, did you decide to bite the bullet and buy her? The feeling that it is yours and anything you do will just improve things, to make it more comfortable is soooooooooooooooo good! If we had a lot of spare pennies, and lived closer to the broads, that is the direction we would go. SueH
  6. Yes I must admit to being a woose! Getting off the subject a bit, are there problems with having gas heating on boats nowadays, with all the new rules and regulations. I remember of the older hire boats years ago they had the old catalytic heaters that were renowned for condensation, but hopefully technology has improved a bit since then. SueH
  7. And of course all the bulbs have been 'conned' by the fairly mild weather down here into poking their noses out of the soil. Here's hoping we don't get a late frost to frighten them away. SueH
  8. Hi I expect on such a lovely day a number of you lucky people who live close are on the water now 'fettling'. Very relaxing it is too. Alan - was Breeze ok when you were on her on Friday? With the strong winds recently I was concerned that both her and MS would have been bashed around a bit on their moorings. MS particularly is prone to this being effectively right on the river. SueH
  9. I'm quite envious. Still at least we are not flooded out and still have electricity! SueH
  10. Hello John & Mary Jane Sounds like the same problem as we have on MS for the sheets. We take a heated blanket up each time we go as well, but only have one controller. We use sleeping bags. The sheets are to cover the 'warmship'. Jayne is chock a block for each trip up, at least she's a big vehicle. The things we do for comfort! SueH
  11. Well ...................... That's why we take Sleeping Bags and only use sheets to put them on. If putting the sheet on is bad I hate to think how bad putting a quilt cover on would be. SueH :River Police
  12. A very emotive topic in our house. It is always a struggle to make up the bed on MS as you fight with the mattress to get it up far enough to get the sheets in place. You need seven hands! I was wondering. Is there such a thing as a mattress that effectively is in two parts with a padded bit across the middle, whereby it can be 'folded' in two to enable easy to fit sheets but you won't be able to feel the join? Also - why aren't the mattresses on slats to enable them to breath thus helping keep condensation down? SueH
  13. Hello Mowjo You and Martin should get together, he is exactly the same. His mum taught him well. Excellent cook, uses the sewing machine like a professional and knows how the washing machine works. The only thing he won't touch is the ironing. When he left the military this was one job that was just too much!!! SueH
  14. Morning Grace and Happy Valentines day. Unfortunately, nothing special in our household. Martin is one of the 'bah humbug' brigade and always has been. If a bunch of flowers arrived I would fall off my chair (not a pretty sight!). SueH
  15. Good luck to them. So often we see large urban areas looking stark and unloved. It can only be to the good, especially with councils being so strapped for cash. We see a lot of boats on the Kennet & Avon Canal, doing their bit in the same way and they are a welcome splash of colour to see as you walk along the towpath. SueH
  16. Morning all, on this drab and dreary day. We are not in Norfolk at this time. Even if we were. always picking up MS at Brundall on a Saturday invariably means that we dip out on such social occasions unless we are lucky enough to have a fortnight. Hope you have a good weekend anyway. All the best. SueH
  17. At last, we made a command decision, arranged a date and location and informed the membership. If they are unhappy they ought to have made their input beforehand! SueH
  18. The large curved entrance door looks like a work of art. It looks like it could even be used in a home. Although as Alan said it will probably be at quite a cost. SueH
  19. The local Beeb people are on location on the Somerset Levels at the moment. Today has just made the situation worse. Even here in the most sheltered of areas the wind has been interesting. We had a 'lovely' thunder clap over the bungalow half an hour ago, followed by large hail. Poor Rosie's nerves are shot - she's not as bad as our first corgi who used to try to burrow through the carpet when there was thunder, but she's still not keen. SueH
  20. Hmmmmm, Bendy, tinted, double glazed windows that work on runners. If anyone could find a way to make them, at an affordable price, they would make a fortune. Unfortunately I am not clever enough, more's the pity! I can see the downside of the Perspex as currently manufactured. It does scratch, and sometimes ours (despite the van only being two years old) gets condensation inside which becomes unsightly. SueH
  21. I can see why. It costs us £25 to replace the 9kg propane calor gas bottles on our caravan. So goodness knows how much 13kg cost. Butane is not quite as useful in the winter, as it freezes at a slightly temperature than propane. Despite the changes to the regulations there is still a market in scrap value as well. These will never be found, as there is just no way of identifying them. Which is why the 'toe-rags' target them because the likelihood of being caught/convicted is next to nothing. SueH
  22. I have always wondered why new boats don't have the new sealed double glazed window units now that the technology has improved. Or why in the larger areas they have not taken advantage of the sort of windows that are now in our caravan, the double glazed Perspex? Himself says that it may because the Perspex windows are not particularly strong, but again as technology has improved they may now be suitable? It would certainly improve the winter boating experience. Mind you even Broom are not using such things in their new builds. What do you think? SueH
  23. Have you ever tried to organise anything in a club or group of people? We only want to have a swap-meet in our RC club, a get together to buy/sell and just chat. But it appears to be a huge mountain to climb. We only have 27 members!!! It's driving me nuts. Roll on 1st March when we are on the boat so can forget this for a week. SueH
  24. Hi from sunny Wiltshire Welcome SueH

    Hunsett Mill

I must admit we haven't managed see these for a while. Am hoping to get up there in June. It sounds that things have gone down-hill a bit, which is a great shame. SueH
