Not strictly true.  My 2016 Skoda Octavia vRS TDi DSG doesn’t use AdBlue, but is ULEZ compliant with just a dpf in the exhaust.

As is my 2016 Tucson Diesel along with £30 a year road tax!

Main dealer service and 12m breakdown cover for £205?

Our 7 year old Hyundai Tucson went into Upminster Hyundai today for a “core service” and MOT. £169 later we have a new MOT and 12 months pretty comprehensive breakdown cover - including home start, roadside assistance etc and if they can’t fix it 2 day replacement car.

Whilst our costs for two cars had not risen that much they had increased considerably both cars are now with Tesco, similar cover and much better price.  It seems you have to 'go compare' every year now  :default_sad:

When I rang Admiral to cancel the auto renewal they wanted to go through it all to get me a better price. I refused and told them they should have offered me the best price in the first place- never, ever auto-renewal without shopping around first!

  4. We had two cars on a multi car policy with admiral, renewal in mid October. Last year - £650 for both. Renewal this year for both £1,150. Nothing has changed in the policy.

Now they are separate policies with Tesco for a total cost of £720.

I seem to have lost all sense in what things are worth these days!

  5. We were moored at Ranworth earlier on in the season and Hire boat pulls in next to us. They ask how to use the electric, we tell them and off they go to the shop to buy the cards. I show them how to put the 1st pound but apparantly “they needed to charge phone and run hairdryers” so they add another £4. They left 3 hours later with £4.70 credit still left 🤷‍♂️

I am sure you have made the right decision and if you need any support / advice by all means get in touch with me (I am treasurer of the Moonlight Shadow Syndicate) , @Mouldy (Chair of the syndicate) and @YnysMon (Helen who is the secretary)

We are more than happy to share ideas and even look to bring the syndicate boats together as a co-operative group of self run syndicates where we share best practice and support for each other (This may help with such things as insurance, mooring costs, access to the bridge pilot, upgrades, breakdown cover, and more). Just an idea but it may be an option in the future.

    All the best

Well I have suggested to our Chair that the Chair’s should all be in contact with each other fairly regularly so a great idea 👍🏻

    From your fellow Treasurer,

    Matt

    Ahhh.... T512.

What a great example that is, very tidy and well kept, and nice for previous owners to know in such good hands, as they really do take good care of them at HPC (plus, I suppose if there is any pining you can hire it!?)

    Dan

When I was there last week it already had the HPC decals on it! Looks very nice from the outside.

I think there's an element of price correction that needs to happen.

Personally, I was looking to hire over August B/H but hire prices have gone up year on year for the last couple of seasons and they're at a level where I made the decision to do something else instead.

Boating has never been cheap (and never will be) but when hiring is more than a luxury hotel break where one doesn't have to sleep on an uncomfortable bed and try to fit into a tiny shower then something doesn't feel quite right.

Next you will be telling us these “luxury hotels” have hot water whenever you want it 😃

  9. My Grandparents lived in Falmouth when I was growing up. Many, many great holidays and memories down there. The nights spent at The Pandora Inn, the lunches at The Ferry Boat Inn on the Helford river, the pitch and putt at Swanpool, all great times.

I'm confused as to why the BA would reject situating the mooring at the river end of the dyke on safety grounds. Would a mooring there really be unsafe compared to South Broads moorings elsewhere?

I couldn’t work it out either!

Just to rub some more salt here, I tried emailing the BA, as per Rob Rogers (Director of operations at BA) reply in bold, they believe the introduction of the fees enables better use of the spaces and more visitors visit ranworth and local businesses have seen an uptake in business.  Pretty amazing for the first few weeks if you ask me so an amazing job BA.. well done :default_huh:

Have you considers submitting an FOI for the number of boats that paid by day since the charge was introduced? I suspect they have the info and should share it.

Yes, we talked to the pilot. Sounds like it's a very recent change. Even before the pilots started accepting 'private boats' they had an agreement with BCBM, our former management company. It would be interesting to know whether that agreement still applies to the two broads boats that are still managed by them.

    We haven’t been told otherwise….

Hey - I drive an Audi and know how to use my mirrors :default_eusa_naughty:

When I see and/or hear blues and twos, I do everything I can in a safe manner to allow them speedy and easy passage. This would include pulling over at a suitable place, and giving as much room as possible for the driver to decide their best course of action to get past and make progress.

And then the car behind you pulls out and goes around you 😂 it happens all the time!

No emergency service is exempt from the law. I believe the phrase is they are allowed to drive in a manner that is not consistent with the law for instance when it comes to speed limits and red lights, but that doesn't mean they are not liable if doing so causes an accident.

I don't know the current situation, but it used to be the case that Police pursuit officers would be taken off pursuit driving if they had an accident, whereas Fire and Ambulance drivers effectively drive on their own license and could rack up points or worse be banned if blamed for a Blue light incident.

I didn’t say anybody was exempt from the law…..
