"If SHE were to come to Bournemouth, WE at Bournemouth WOULD`NT rip her off by charging HER more because SHE WAS`NT local". Correct me if i`m wrong, but charging "tourists" extra because they`re not local is hardly good for the tourist trade?.
Apart from during the "annual Dorset residents week" where 50 business offer 2 for 1 deals for Dorset Residents........

I have been reading this thread with interest but have only just put 2 and 2 together!
Thunder has an MC42 and if memory serves me correctly runs along at 80-85 degrees at mostly 1800-2000 revs.

I think it`s more to do with possible accidental damage Gracie?. Lightning is moored right on the side of Brooms fuel quay, but WAS moored in the dyke to the side, which ls the basin where all their hirefleet moor at changeover. We were offered the move due to Lightning being "hit" a couple of times, by hireboat skippers returning into the basin. Maybe that`s the point regarding Richardsons at Horning?.
I forgot to say Lightning took a major clout in Beccles a short while ago, so we`re getting a little fed up with it ourselves. At least we don`t have to pay for the damage, BUT it does mean Lightning will be out of service for repairs in the winter time, that time is supposed to be occupied by an owner who has paid for 4 weeks a year but will be going without due to someones negligence at best, pure stupidity and lack of care at worst.
In which case are those owners hiring something else and recovering those costs from offending party?

Should be open again tomorrow

I once saw someone try to jump a 4 foot gap from the boat to the bank to tie up whilst holding two foot of rope.........

I once left a stern on mooring having forgotten to lift the mudweight. It didn't seem to hinder the boat at all!
Possibly because the tide had risen and it was not touching the bottom anyway......?

Hi Matt,
We were down the first week in July and the Southern Rivers were the busiest we have seen them, mooring was at a premium and all of the usual popular spots were quite full, we were glad we booked a mooring at the Beccles Yacht Station.
Regards
Alan
Probably all those private boats getting out before the school holidays!

Moorings up North certainly are a squeeze in the summer holidays. Never a problem for us previously as we were happy to mudweight but we now have a dog so not so easy!
what is noticeable down South is the difference the loss of Alphacraft and Swancraft have made to moorings around Brundall on a Friday evening. It used to be bustling with the mooring upto and including Brammerton being full, a number of boats mudweighting on Surlingham and Coldham Hall moorings being busy. Although the Broom hirefleet has increased in numbers there was plenty of room earlier in the year.

Back to Beccles - as the tide rose and fell, we adjusted the rope to ensure the weight held the bow from being swung in the blustery conditions to the left or right this it did very well which is the reason one puts the mud weight down at stern on moorings.
And you did that all through the night..........?!

I have a cunning plan Blackadder,
I will phone Brooms on Monday and suggest they get some spare keys cut
I am sure our owner suggested that the first time around.........
the he problem on a Saturday is I think Swancraft are closed?

The other Saturday morning Brooms had to break into the fuel hut but as they could not find the keys.....

I'm in the pointless group
see so so many lowered with about 3 foot of slack!

It is a shame because I imagine bothered well used by the land based holiday maker as well as boaters.
As a privateer we were rarely able to get moored amywhere to use them anyway! The Ferry Inn never made an impression on us so we never stop there.

Best check those ropes!

Why they didn't moor much earlier and return to Stalham in daylight is beyond my understanding.
Probably because the chances of being caught and action taken is negligible.......

Toll Restructure For Broads

The full nav paper is here:

Plan is to move to a toll based upon square meters........
by my rough calculations Thunders toll will increase by about £90 although I assumed a rectangular boat and ignored the pointy bit at the front
