Hi everyone, my new mercury prop turned up today and like the old one it doesn't fit properly into the housing. My question is how is the thrust hub washer meant to sit on the shaft. My prop fits perfectly without the washer. My washer doesn't sit flush to the inside section and has a gap of about half a centimetre. Is it meant to sit with a gap or is it meant to be flush? Any help please.. Branden
Hi everyone, I was meant to leave saturday for a week of cruising and fishing but my outboard wont go. It starts first pull, idles perfectly but when put in forward or reverse gear and accelerated it revs up with no thrust to move the boat. I've removed the prop to check for wear on the spline shaft and the hub washer and neither are damaged. I've tried turning the prop by hand in gear and it spins both ways without major resistance but i can hear no grinding so cant imagine there being anything broken inside. Could anyone have any idea what it could be as this is my only week of till june Next Year and i really want to get out on my boat. Thanks in advance Branden :-D
The weather is turning cold now and winterisation should be on every boat owner's agenda over the next few weeks. Kingfisher Boat Services (our sister company that carries out private boat work) would be pleased to quote for any winterisation that you may need doing and can offer many levels of service. If you're doing it yourself, please make time soon as the forecasters seem to think it's going to get pretty cold this winter. ALSO, we are told by Broads Beat that Fuel Thefts and Thefts of Outboards are on the up again. It's never a good idea to leave a valuable engine on a boat that's unattended for a long time, especially over a long winter, so, if you can, please remove your outboards from boats and store at home. We can offer winter storage if you can't do this. Also, remove outboard fuel tanks and, if you can secure your fuel filler cap or insert an anti-siphon adaptor into the filler hose, it would be recommended.
