mjt
If you need to replace an old or obsolete component in your engine electrics it would be well worth contacting Wood Auto Supplies Ltd, Cromwell Works, Colne Road, Huddersfield, HD1 3ES. The 4TR regulator on my boat failed last week and they were able to supply a brand-new replacement, plus a set of brushes for my 11AC alternator. The regulator turned out to be a newly-manufactured pattern item, not an old-stock Lucas. At the moment their website only supports on-line ordering from business customers but they are happy to deal with private individuals by telephone and/or email. They were incredibly helpful. I ordered by email, paid by PayPal and received my order the next day. The boat was up and running again in less than a week. (I know it would probably have been better to look for a new alternator but by the time I'd found a suitable one then messed around modifying wiring and mountings I would have lost most of what remains of the season and Murphy's Law would ensure that while the boat was out of commission the weather would turn nice again.)
