EDP Front page Headline...... BA chief is a TOWN PLANNER !....

Know wonder the moorings are disappearing, he is only qualified to design CAR PARKS !!

Who gave this Planner the job in the first place? It really does beggar belief!

cheersIain.

I can tell you, Iain, that a past member of the Authority,  regretfully now deceased, told me that the ex-town planner was the best of a poor bunch. Effectively, it would appear, that he got the job because no one better suited applied. The sad thing is that a number of highly able and knowledgeable members of staff soon moved on for various reasons. Legend has that anyone who knew more about the Broads than he did was made to feel unwelcome. It was also often said that anyone who knew anything about the Broads needn't apply for a job.

That is very sad JM. Decades of wasted opportunity. But, answers many other questions from the past and present.

cheersIain

On a lighter note, disband the BA, put Timbo in charge with his little pointed trowel, then I am sure EVERYONE would get the point ! :naughty:

cheersIain

I can remember people at a dig,  having a dart board inscribed on a spoil heap and throwing trowels, some were worryingly good....

The Authority has long been intent on returning the Broads to a mythical stage in its development, only they have never let the rest of us know when that was!

Poppy, in principle I go along with your comment, let's maintain what we've got. We need to bring it up to scratch though.

John, commercialisation will probably be the key, but over commercialisation will be the death knell.

Effectively it will take another decade to regain the lost trust that he now enjoys, and to put the Authority back on track.

I fear that you must be right on this, and what is more it will only be the force of opinion of the local people and actual Broads users, of all persuasions, that will trigger this change. Remember the Halvergate marshes? It was force of public opinion that stopped that potential disaster. So the people must get their voice heard, against an un-elected quango. Maybe not impossible. If all the other lovers of the Broads feel the same as we seem to on this forum, then maybe our opinion simply needs an effective outlet?

Some information to ponder gleaned from the Broads Plan 2017 Consultation Documents.

From a high of 7847.6m in 2012/2013 the combined length of public moorings has fallen by 279.1m to 7568.5m in 2014/2015. Now how many metres of public moorings have we lost this season so far?
