Winter And Summer Cruising

I would like to ask the NBN Forum Member's as to how many of you do Winter Cruising as well as Summer Cruising. Summer gets very Crowed. In Winter it is very Quite. As to Winter Cruising is it very hard to get Provisions along with Fuel and Water? As to Summer Cruising being abundant with Supplies of your choice.

I havent yet done much in the way of winter cruising but I fully intend to afloat as much as possible this coming winter, so I guess I will be finding out the availability of provisions and such as I go.
I did spend most Sundays at the start of this year on the boat doing work on her and the lovely crisp air and scenery just at Wayford really whet my appetite to go off down river:)

I don't know of any food shops that are shut for the winter so  I think provisions are not a problem.

Except for the obvious "C  to NY"  fortnight most boat yards are open except they may be on reduced hours.

Some Cafes and restaurants may have a month or so closed if they are in private ownership, while the owners go on holiday. 

The Pubs will be open, but again may have reduced hours for meal serving.

Oh I haven't winter cruised, I just live here, I must get down to the boat again and do some more work...

Cruise every winter, have done for the past ten years. Just need a bit more planning ahead with regards to provisions. River ice is a show stopper though

Winter for me every time. Brilliant time to be out. You do get the odd shop closed and a couple of pubs reduce their hours but most are open as normal. All the bigger shops too. Water isn't a problem either but just need to plan ahead a bit more. Hoses can freeze in very cold weather. As Griff says ice is a no no but it tends to be the dead ends that freeze more readily, the main rivers are OK. Been doing it for a good few years now and not had a problem (touch wood)

Do this a lot. Watch for water pipes that are missing in winter and are there in summer or frozen, yacht stations are closed. The need to run engines way longer or connect to power.

Choose boat carefully. Some sliding roof ones are very draft prone and you may need to run heating a lot so keep batteries topped up
