Saturday 8th December

It was a much brighter morning at St Olaves today, b20181208_085922.thumb.jpg.2561d194474974b10ba5292ad874bf0e.jpgut with a very stiff wind which was holding me to the bank very tightly.20181208_085935.thumb.jpg.e4b982238682cef619f882b4054738b9.jpg

We had a short morning walk before returning to the boat for coffee and a natter, whilst perusing the forum and I tried to decide what and where to go today.

The tide was coming in and I fancied a trip down the Waveney with the water helping push me along, unfortunately the bridge height was already at 6'9" so it meant waiting around and wasting the day or I could head up the Waveney fighting the tide all the way before turning onto the Yare to fight the water which would have then become outgoing.

So that's what I did :default_biggrin:

The slightly tricky task of leaving the mooring completed off I went towards Breydon Water20181208_115256.thumb.jpg.ee2d0373d24cfcba6993713cb97657b9.jpg20181208_115307.thumb.jpg.e323a6019102a01216fc90afdbeec88c.jpg20181208_115650.thumb.jpg.76a1a4f65f7ae20441a00ece1669366a.jpg20181208_120442.thumb.jpg.046e3d3bb861a13243c47afaaa5464fd.jpg20181208_121152.thumb.jpg.999de04446519ce7db03459bd0f203e0.jpg and then along the Yare towards Reedham. I may have got a bit carried away with the pictures as it was just nice to be moving along with the sun shining and blinding me.20181208_125248.thumb.jpg.6f6947412e13b4e931df1bb1992d5055.jpg20181208_125303.thumb.jpg.2fb10fab3dac449e1850f79c8b46142b.jpg

Someone else obviously thought so too because I actually passes another boat as I reached the Berney Arms moorings.20181208_132241.thumb.jpg.dc56d0b31be4337adc5e47da895a0179.jpg20181208_133508.thumb.jpg.122f63a7d208a6e9d8b6394b1043e7da.jpg20181208_134219.thumb.jpg.605b9306709bbbceb3d78e708a8eaf74.jpg20181208_134223.thumb.jpg.88a338acc86f19df12a033e9e9fc1757.jpg

Once I reached Reedham, I easily passed under the bridge and made the mistake of mooring at the far end of Reedham near to the Rangers hut and Sanderson Marine.20181208_140134.thumb.jpg.5dc2ab67753f1c4f670c69b97bb5c96f.jpg20181208_143610.thumb.jpg.bba024bf78cea492bab777f4176567bb.jpg20181208_143615.thumb.jpg.2e47b5964a401b0de8e605cc35954ed2.jpg20181208_144639.thumb.jpg.0b25ea792a5a23cef9aa4bfa30f0d386.jpg

Off we went for a walk around the village (stopping for refreshments along the way :default_norty:) 20181208_162514.thumb.jpg.475afd821a8205ef848f70dbedd21896.jpg20181208_162535.thumb.jpg.a434a79a39537c8f61c03b06c6e7451f.jpgand then walked along the dark lanes up to Reedham Ferry 20181208_172041.thumb.jpg.53e029120ffc065afe6f1c4663c9d3f1.jpg20181208_172213.thumb.jpg.a3dcd339d5e3e9b980e4ac70a0e1a9f6.jpg20181208_172519.thumb.jpg.c931e832975116a8acc77b3d0e97764f.jpg20181208_172813.thumb.jpg.309d11c0777ea0d2976dbb06750d8670.jpg20181208_172911.thumb.jpg.3015afed873230df27d6daf5ed2208c0.jpg20181208_173113.thumb.jpg.0cadb65f5d6cd88eedec87f56109a0cb.jpg20181208_173740.thumb.jpg.f2bb143aa76c6567af515853be41e0cf.jpg

(Don't ask because I don't know why I took these pictures :default_biggrin:)

The moorings were unsurprisingly empty, but the Chain Ferry seemed to be doing very well, with queues either side waiting.

20181208_174052.thumb.jpg.0819b0048245a422027e499277481198.jpgwhere we enjoyed a drink in there too. And very nice and festive it was, a big thumbs up :1310_thumbsup_tone1:

After walking back along the even darker lanes I reached the boat once more 20181208_192303.thumb.jpg.8768c1e3dc584aba00fa7d2e43e88ccb.jpgwhere I stayed for the rest of the night, as the water topped the bank, and flooded over the grass verge, and the strong wind pushed me further onto the quay.

After readjustment as best I got, which helped nothing, I attempted to sit out the "storm" and when if finally eased and the water had emptied out, I could readjust the fenders once more and settle down for the night, but it had ruined what I had hoped to have been a very pleasant evening.

Deffo the cute puppy! Lapdog? Maybe. I could stroke your head, fondle your ears and tickle your tummy. Leastways that’s what I do with my dogs! I’ve just thought, it’s the collar and lead you really want isn’t it? I didn’t know you were in to that sort of thing!! :51_scream:

Thank you Mrs V, erm I think :default_biggrin:

Right, the first port of call is to find somewhere to buy some walking shoes

Like I know where the shoe shops are, you're going to have to actually make a decision at some point you know :default_biggrin:

Sunday 9th December

Just a quickie today :default_norty:

With Reedham moorings still high and the tide still coming back in, well the moorings where I had mistakenly stayed at anyway.20181209_100240.thumb.jpg.0f88ddab84e44858f1d540940bb2c07f.jpg20181209_100307.thumb.jpg.c014b202eda509a4b969d907717eca33.jpg

I got up and gave the dog a quick exercise and then immediately set about moving off.20181209_084849.thumb.jpg.9904a86496b3bcff07bce50634afda7a.jpg

I tried to allow the boat to move away from mooring as I messed with the lines but the wind didn't want to help me with that, I am sure if anyway was watching me I looked like a right berk but honestly I had a plan, and it was just organised chaos :default_biggrin:

Once clear of the moorings I was able to head off, soaking wet and looking a right mess from the dirty wet lines that had sprayed and flayed me and my clothes 20181209_104717.thumb.jpg.c834aa392ee4d8a949d4ba93758b534f.jpg

I cleared all the boats before turning around and retracing my path back down to the bridge, and then off along the New Cut once more.20181209_111320.thumb.jpg.eabe29cc099eed605b3d2eeb4e9c42ea.jpg

I passed along the Cut and then turned right towards Oulton Broad and happily was going with the incoming tide. In truth, whilst I don't make any plans, just see where I fancy when I get to it, I did want to go to either Oulton or Beccles really, walking shoes were apparantly required :default_biggrin:, stopping off somewhere maybe along the way, but as I approached Somerleyton swing bridge the height gauge was showing 6'8".20181209_111955.thumb.jpg.5c421c0c97e2b2eb6b157ed0ee75ad30.jpg

Never one to pass up an opportunity I swung around and moored up at Somerleyton, and seeing as it was just after 12, thought it was time to head up to the pub and sit it out whilst I waited for the water level to drop.20181209_112541.thumb.jpg.cfa39f72ffeba3f29d90cb4bcd2425b8.jpg

Sitting outside on a beautiful day enjoying the sunshine it was very easy to just let the day waste away, and so I did.

Well it's Sunday isn't it.

20181209_130507.thumb.jpg.9d73d9e4bb4f4452d2d535b31c41e17d.jpg

When I finally returned to the boat, I began giving her a very much needed clean up, and spent the rest of the day aboard just enjoying being on the water in the sun.20181209_125449.thumb.jpg.2ee364b78e7850ea4f1573c74fa40afe.jpg

Did I say that was going to be a quickie??? :default_biggrin:

I plan to make up for the "wasted" day with a longer cruise tomorrow.

What a wonderful change from the earlier in the week rain and wind.

20181210_110837.thumb.jpg.67e570bf5ffe440c403ad6f7aaf9b084.jpg

Now it's just windy :default_biggrin:. It's warmed from the frosty 3° this morning to a lovely warm 6° in the sunshine

What lovely weather for you today, far nicer than grim grey gloomy Manchester where it is raining currently, funny how nobody minds it raining afloat, we sure don't anyway.

I remember on our Honeymoon we had the then Swan Ranger and even when it rained we still sat upstairs and cruised along with a brolly up :default_norty:

No I don't care what the weather does, but cruising and boozing in sunshine can't be beaten.

Speaking of which :default_beerchug:

Good stuff, that's the equivalent to me always standing up with my head out of the helm roof window, despite other people's complaints about letting the cold in :default_rolleyes:

Enjoy work, you'd love this beer I'm supping :default_wink:

Omg that reminds me of a time we hired a Barnes Breakaway boat just for the weekend and because of the rain and lack of windscreen wipers we had to cruise along with Mark's head up out of the canopy, next thing I know, whoosh, gust of wind and off went his first mates cap into the water, luckily friends we're following behind us and scooped it up :default_biggrin:

Enjoy your break away guys and if you can't be good be careful.

So sorry about that Sir. If it's any consolation, I am hating every single gorgeous drop that quenches my undying thirst on this gloriously sunny day beside the river. :default_icon_liar:

Not anything, it has to be alcoholic, and then yes, yes I do

Yes I know a woman who has barophobia too.

Do you not use the southern broad? Good on you, they are awful. Very few bars and terrible monsters, best staying up north.

Yeah we have been on the South side loads, just find it so much windier and open but there are some lovely little places and we always enjoy crossing Breydon, such fun.

I assure you that I am not well trained. I go because I want a beer and so, being so kind hearted I'll get other people one at the same time too.

Never seem to see any money offered to me for doing so though :default_smiley-angelic002:

I love both sides and will always aim to do some of both when possible, the crossings haven't been good this week though so stayed South, when I'm back in a couple of weeks I aim to stay t'up north though so it's all good.
