A Winters Tale

We stopped in Potter Heigham on a crowded bank holiday Monday once and I couldn't see its charms. Having returned several times it has become one of my favourite places ... but that's when on a road trip from the caravan. Much as I love Broadstone's for something to eat way more than the King's Something-or-other in Ludham, I do love Womack Dyke or Womack Water for a mooring spot. Less challenging than the wind by the old bridge or a tight turn in Herbie Wood's yard.

Looking forward to finding out where you went next Jay ... but please never apologise for not having posted. Updating social media is in my view most definitely not the point of being out on the Broads. #SingForJay :default_party0001:

Sorry Mrs SR, the kids are keeping me busy just now but I promise I'll reply properly soon.

Keep the suggestions coming, I've got a song you'll love. I'll tell you soon :default_smiley-angelic002:

How long are you guys afloat for, might need to follow your holiday tale to help my sanity this week and I've only been back since 8am hahahaha.

Go home on Saturday HG. You can follow if you like but I'd worry for your sanity if you do :default_biggrin:

Ahh thanks Mrs SR, I don't really care about this social media or blogging malarkey, but have been asked to continue it and so I do my best.

I'm still waiting for the next epic in the daily song saga though :default_biggrin:

Monday 31st December

The last day of 2018 began for me in Acle under a slowly clearing sky. 20181231_085523.thumb.jpg.4c67d3f303174179ff394bd5a969eae9.jpg20181231_085541.thumb.jpg.85ec6b0b2e721f3c5072b04a9ae8d50f.jpg20181231_094235.thumb.jpg.bcc1decc986024ef610dafd6075e1418.jpgOnce again the morning started with a coffee or two and then a walk with the dog along the riverside moorings and around the Bridge Inn.20181231_100954.thumb.jpg.7f38ce5fb14f4819f4c8e6a73074d978.jpg

The dog didn't seem too bothered about walking too far this morning so once we returned to the boat, I set about preparing for the off.

In actual fact is was almost 1100 hours before us at off, but the day was brightening up as I did so, and after backing out from the moorings, I set off along the Bure in the direction of Wroxham.20181231_110458.thumb.jpg.0b15cbc1dda9e25e84da8ed7b3ad5633.jpg20181231_114111.thumb.jpg.9ac3c4e73f1a593ef960d6cd2fa968d3.jpg20181231_114312.thumb.jpg.84bf2895d8fb15623830b849d83d4c30.jpg20181231_114906.thumb.jpg.da699f95d09aa2fc8eec83fe20af77a9.jpg20181231_115906.thumb.jpg.c608fa06e2c5eb33b69ae991dda0d02e.jpg20181231_120300.thumb.jpg.fbea8a643c16ec5eb24f884ce97b2207.jpg20181231_120912.thumb.jpg.e964e54b99aa1bb243185557410d3a06.jpg20181231_121143.thumb.jpg.b6725981925afbe49743740a675fe709.jpg

I didn't have a particular destination in mind (go figure) but with New Years Eve celebrations likely to be kicking off, and me being alone, I thought Ranworth may offer a secluded spot to enjoy my own evening.20181231_122318.thumb.jpg.c0edf2fd429b0adfd8617871a3435a26.jpg

As I arrived just before 1300 it looked like I may have been correct as there was only about 4 boats including myself.20181231_125237.thumb.jpg.d71fc0b84992aa084be4818438bb07df.jpg20181231_125404.thumb.jpg.380dfae2c94345005e748e2c519712fd.jpg

And so once moored up I took the dog off for a walk to the Ship Inn at South Walsham.20181231_125747.thumb.jpg.bbb324fdcdde0f91f8ada6dfdfb61fee.jpg20181231_131422.thumb.jpg.2a13715074def88afc31ece8293b00db.jpg20181231_131917.thumb.jpg.96a224207edd646c19bc2cad50eaaadf.jpg

After some light refreshments we walked back to the staithe and, not really being one to be bothered about New Year festivities began to unwind on-board for the evening.20181231_184552.thumb.jpg.0a15ee3322b3e689443fd6678f5fb1a3.jpg20181231_184643.thumb.jpg.529138fc3ca6ab5d2caa8d07f6a78815.jpg20181231_184705.thumb.jpg.54d3f4511d6526c7cb56ef0b2226a320.jpg20181231_184738.thumb.jpg.c232ed751cd5297a36ec3fb190aa04fd.jpg

As the night went on a number of boats arrived and by around 2100 the staithe was almost full and a few parties began to break out. I took the dog for another short stroll, noting that The Maltsters was also full.20181231_184825.thumb.jpg.49fa7a9cafc0ebbef979a0c7606b139e.jpg20181231_185219.thumb.jpg.1279eea48c2e7b8f668b36d961ffae6d.jpg

But for me it was a return to the boat to see in the New Year with the little lady until well into the early hours.

Aha ... the challenge has been set! I'm keeping it simple today. Here's one you can sing with your children ...

I think my kids will try and kill me for singing this one Jean, but a challenge is a challenge so I'll have a go when we set off

How about something everyone knows in return though.....

I have to say, the kids were not impressed with it at all. Sorry :default_biggrin:
