It is, I guess a lot of folk won't want the walk

Landlord is very friendly, think he's called Ian. He remembers me, can't think why :default_norty:

Nice unspoilt pub, not many left on the Broads now

It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the Broads Haven opens.
My money is on boaters in the BH and locals in the Falgate.
Not sure though.

I like it to be honest, the landlord is certainly very friendly, always has been with me so I am guessing you and I must have some similarities :default_biggrin:

Although when he and (I assume) his wife keep having arguments about who is doing what infront of customers I can see it putting people off too. As long as they get me  beer, I'm not too fussy.

I think you may be correct on the whole. I would personally still visit the Falgate but as the day....evening went on head to the Broads Haven.

I do hope the Haven has a really good go at it.

Monday 2nd April

Another grey day in the pouring rain started in Herbert Woods yard in Potter Heigham. I awoke early as I suspected the boatyard may be busy with a Monday changeover despite it being Easter.

I was correct.

20180402_093418.thumb.jpg.60d964e9a4e211224e31c0e63ff450e5.jpg

So a quick top up of water and walk for the dog I moved all the way from Herbie Woods yard to the public moorings directly outside Herbie Woods.

I know, I shouldn't exert myself so much :default_smiley-angelic002:

20180402_093430.thumb.jpg.6dcd99290fc3e0d2dbc9689cd008013a.jpg

The "crew" wanted to go shopping for things we didn't need in Lathams, fortunately leaving me behind to sit and.....do nothing as it turned out.

Once everyone was back on board loaded up with pastries from Lathams :facepalm:we finally set off (shamefully at around 1300 hours) :default_ohmy:

Heading back down the Thurne,

20180402_130720.thumb.jpg.67dc4923bd010ee47423edb49a48bc81.jpgrejoining the Bure and heading towards Wroxham.

The rivers seemed a little quieter after the weekend so passing Ranworth I thought I would pop In.

I could have squeezed into the staithe but being in no rush to moor up I headed back out and back the way I had come from.

After fighting a choppy Bure,

i reached Acle where spotting a space I did a 180° and moored up.

Sorting the mundane necessities I then headed over to the Bridge Inn for a few bevvies

Tuesday 3rd April

Awaking after a disturbed sleep by my alarm at 0530 hours I left "The Crew" sleeping as I set off with a coffee as company heading from Acle down to Yarmouth to cross Breydon and return to the Southern rivers.

20180403_055312.thumb.jpg.9d8c1f391fae678cd5ced04ecefcfd37.jpg

It was a nice pleasant morning, a very light shower after setting off soon passed and brightened up.

20180403_055547.thumb.jpg.64694da1433f1481335e37aaf66253b0.jpg

The trip down to Stokesby was quiet and relaxing,

20180403_060717.thumb.jpg.6cb687c1453a05fb2415d0ccc0b5b46b.jpg

upon reaching the Stracey Arms moorings I was passed by 4 speeding boats insisting on overtaking whilst we passed a number of moored craft, if you happened to be moored up and was awoken by being bumped into the moorings, it wasn't because of me I assure you.

Then began the journey down the lower stretches of the Bure, but on a quiet fine morning like today it was very pleasant and relaxing, even as I was joined by the rest of the crew.

20180403_065247.thumb.jpg.d3527a9b318e8d4538bbeccc50d8eb8c.jpg20180403_065420.thumb.jpg.2aac99fcf23ae9d3c4f92a7de229ced9.jpg20180403_065756.thumb.jpg.8cddb27dba89294ae43b835a0d531d97.jpg20180403_071109.thumb.jpg.3cf8ead0213aeb8ddfc0a4344c114924.jpg20180403_073531.thumb.jpg.be24ad7d0cb8212a8d277ca30bf1c0eb.jpg

Reaching Yarmouth there was loads of room under the bridges as expected and as we passed through and proceeed over Breydon there was a collection of around 6 other hirers crossing down south :default_rolleyes:

After a quick brew stop and a walk for the dog at the Berney Arms moorings I set off again down the Waveney being helped along by the tide but hindered by the wind which created some impressive waves along the journey (not that my camera shows it).

20180403_121259.thumb.jpg.29d111ad8438a9f9399cfe70d7cf5f8d.jpg

It was a desperate rush upon reaching St Olaves as the bridge was showing just under 8 foot, whilst the water has been high I wasn't expecting that at this stage of the tide, so it was time to rush about dropping the roof whilst avoiding the moored boats to get under the bridge as all loose items went flying in the strong breeze, only to have to put the roof back up as we cleared the otherside of the bridge.

After reaching Oulton Dyke I decided to see how busy it was on the broad after 7 hours of cruising

20180403_122511.thumb.jpg.39987e4f44b1dd6fd75d09ba4787a4ae.jpg

and found the yacht station pretty quiet, so after mooring up, shut off the engine, filled with water and walked the dog.

Returning to the boat it was time for a coffee and relax, and after spending the afternoon catching up with my gorgeous little friend :default_smiley-angelic002: it's time to head out to the pub..... TBC??

Oh and @Gracie I have checked and the bulkhead wouldn't need removing :default_smiley-taunt014:

Wednesday 4th April

After walking the dog around the park at Oulton

20180404_093711.thumb.jpg.4307c53b73a109dd308aa711937ee6f5.jpg20180404_093723.thumb.jpg.337b3a2a2a8b99998cd9ea8439e889a5.jpg

we set off to the Wherry hotel for breakfast before topping up with water and disposing of the rubbish and setting off at around 11am.

20180404_110508.thumb.jpg.0ccc9cf31d4e825a3eae5fa353bf8a27.jpg

20180404_110523.thumb.jpg.66f4a2ba53853b883cd78699696824d7.jpg

20180404_113411.thumb.jpg.828ad359383dce93c21c7aca92e7478d.jpg

Turning right at the end of the dyke we headed back up the Waveney towards the new cut. Whilst a fine morning, the wind was really picking up today.

20180404_113516.thumb.jpg.6eb22ee84b439fccff0ff2953e295437.jpg20180404_113647.thumb.jpg.f8638ebcd341d5e45036e7be98febec1.jpg20180404_114728.thumb.jpg.e25d9ecde7c5eaa7609df349996153b5.jpg20180404_115505.thumb.jpg.f1a8edfbce4d7f1cae27660230684ac2.jpg

Somerleyton bridge was fortunately open so I avoided another hasty canopy drop (height marker showed 7'9" with the tide still coming in if I remember correct) before we turned left down the new cut

20180404_122712.thumb.jpg.44cd225189e5b44b7b7d39ff8ddec979.jpg20180404_123850.thumb.jpg.f7aa4fe026956b92fd7662ed165e29e3.jpg

Approaching Reedham the wind was starting to strengthen, the moorings had topped the bank and I decided to continue on to check out the ferry.

The pub moorings were flooded so again continued...

20180404_125346.thumb.jpg.e43e1f6d0421984930b9bbff49d52bd8.jpg20180404_132308.thumb.jpg.be8e3d67614015ec590f4e9ba7d6caff.jpg

to Cantley. I wasn't happy to stop here as the moorings were also flooded (the picture doesn't do it justice) and the wind was creating large waves and blowing directly onto the bank, but the dog needed a stop so we did so.

20180404_142506.thumb.jpg.d8250e71e0d9246da3a3de6f796a0279.jpg

As I adjusted the fenders to protect the boat the ferocity of the waves pushing us onto the moorings, along with a strong wind doing the same and a couple of helpful boats who despite the width of the river felt it necessary to pass about 2 foot away from me pushing the boat harder onto the mooorings I wasn't happy to stay, neither were a couple of other boats who left just before us so off I set once more back the way I had come.

20180404_145408.thumb.jpg.6e2538d335f507685cf8d4223b177b4b.jpg20180404_153203.thumb.jpg.85933ff94335eb5a7f83810a5e88db13.jpg

until once more I stopped at Somerleyton, being pinned to the bank by the wind. Ropes sorted and fenders adjusted, it was beer and football night :default_trophy:

Jay if you find yourself in that sort of situation again (hopefully not too soon) at Cantley, think about going back/on to Hardley Mill. If there is room there, it is a floating pontoon so no worries about moorings being flooded. It is also a good place to walk the dog.

Lovely pictures again, camera or phone?
