Hi Jay,

To be honest I would have not set off for the Northern Rivers so late in the week with the impending 3 Rivers Race starting on Saturday.

Sorry Alan, it was Sunday I went up north. I'm running behind on the blog I'm afraid

The owner aboard Ranworth Breeze this week was delayed from setting off from Brundall and then ended up in Loddon due to the Reedham Bridge being out of order, I suggested that he should stay down south because of the race even though the tides through Yarmouth would have been perfect for us all week.

I was moored up next mooring but one from Ranworth Breeze last night in Loddon, although didn't see anyone on board until they left this morning

any idea where I've ended up tonight?

The pub last night was the Kings Head in Loddon.

I have got one tonight no one will guess, even the mighty Nog's...

and if you go for a poop (Jesus I swore to Grace I'd never use that word) you have to eat the toilet tissue after you've used it, so you can chuck it in the loo

I can certainly concur that the North is very busy this week- even cotishall was full Sunday evening.

We managed to squeeze into Neatishead at lunchtime and have stayed for the evening with a stream of boats coming along only to have to turn!

Great photos from your epic cruise on Sunday, Jay. Especially love the sunset.

Thank you Mrs SwanR

Do the kids share the time at the helm? Hope you’re enjoying your week.

Well sometimes, but to be honest I am fortunate that the kids prefer to leave me to do all the helming and mooring......I do have to fight Grace off of the helm though as she loves to do it too :default_biggrin: The kids are learning "the ropes" however :default_biggrin:

We have had a great week thank you Jean, and most importantly the kids have loved it, I'm raising the next generation of broads lovers to carry the boating tradition on I hope

Glad you're enjoying your cruise Mr Fire sir and some excellent piccies :default_biggrin:

I am stumped with the pub, I'm pretty sure its one we haven't been in. Looks interesting though.

Thanks Mr Nog.

The pub was the Adam and Eve in Norwich which boasts being "possibly" the oldest one in Norwich. Very nice, although if you're above 5'4" you have to duck through the doorways (ouch)

Also had a decent lager (ok, I know) at the Wig and Pen (dog friendly outside only) amongst others.

Full blog coming up

Ah, we have been in. The first picture was taken from  just outside the entrance to the toilets looking towards the main entrance. They sell Theakstons Old Peculier too. The Wig and Pen is an excellent pub, been in often. Likewise the Louis Marchesi Ribs of Beef, Kings Head etc etc :default_beerchug:

They have a bit Vaughan, maybe not quite the character it once had but still has some charm. It's not done too badly considering Watneys once had their grubby mits on it!

It was actually run by Roger Cawdron at one time, one of norwich's legendary landlords.

Monday 27th May

I sat with the roof down enjoying a coffee on the bank holiday Monday morning

20190527_085929.thumb.jpg.5525819c2f5ff90a9da40656640d702d.jpg

There was a hive of activity going on around Salhouse as people made their preparations for heading off, after filling with water and such like.

20190527_090004.thumb.jpg.d36de1d0016976625045c7b54c05c0b2.jpg

By the time I was taking the dog for a walk a lot of boats had left for the day leaving us in peace and quiet.

20190527_090121.thumb.jpg.3a9b51a490d3a420bf762df91f1ab7a3.jpg

Once the dog was sorted I made use of the water point myself and after making another coffee, set of in the morning sunshine.

20190527_095410.thumb.jpg.191a949f565923b3a77d2b32aea386f9.jpg

It was to be a day of short cruising it seemed, particularly in contrast to the previous day as I made my way back along the river Bure, the sun kept popping out from the clouds and the rivers, whilst busy, seemed to have quieted down a tad.

20190527_103933.thumb.jpg.1b36f29c0db95032addcf5065d080c57.jpg

Nevertheless there was still a constant stream of boats passing by, and also ahead and behind me all the way to St Benetts, which had empties out a lot to the previous day and so I made a 180° turn into the moorings there.

20190527_112150.thumb.jpg.e081c2b2d8a430088f3f7a2d400d31c1.jpg

We set off down past the Abbey

20190527_112255.thumb.jpg.a7c0ca0a1250ff96c4ddfc0ee5b78f68.jpg

And along the footpath between the farmers fields

20190527_112817.thumb.jpg.89b8cf9395ea52d64c232634570e151b.jpg

and joined St Benets Road before turning left along Hall Road which brought us to The Dog Inn at Ludham Bridge after 25-30 minutes.

20190527_131520.thumb.jpg.9d3330184a9eccf1d0fa523a9da6b483.jpg

We had a refreshment break and the kids had a light dinner before we set off back to the boat, this time using the Permissive Path which follows the river from Ludham Bridge to St Benets Abbey.

20190527_140525.thumb.jpg.45137755865c99b74279208c93285dae.jpg

Once back on board, having achieved one requirement of the kids, I headed off to Potter Heigham to try and do the second.

20190527_150921.thumb.jpg.56cfe7c19319d89f58c53537244ebee4.jpg

The rivers were busy still, but much less than the previous day and as I headed along the Bure I soon came to the Thurne mouth and made a turn to port, and headed up the Thurne.

Not long after I came upon the Wherry, Maude. She was slowly winding her way up the Thurne too, and the hire boat in front of me seemed in a rush to get by and head down towards Ludham. I chose to follow behind for a while  enjoying the slow progress and scenic views on offer.

20190527_151508.thumb.jpg.2076dc6c900d290852b2f7e969376d2b.jpg

Once past the Ludham turning, I made my progress past the Wherry, exchanging greetings as I continued up the river. The rain had started to lightly fall as I approached Potter Heigham

20190527_153959.thumb.jpg.d6c944fe041cec9e7f2cbe05c000946e.jpg

After reaching the first set of quiet moorings which were empty I decided I would make a turn and moor up there, we didn't need electric and expected the moorings nearer the bridge to be busy.

Just as I was about to make my 180° turn outside Maycraft boatyard the wind kicked up incredibly and the rain became torrential, and made the manoeuvre all the more difficult. Once complete I moored up using the rhond anchors and returned back inside the boat soaking wet.

Incredibly as seems to happen, as soon as I was inside the wind and rain stopped. I changed my shorts and shirt, and soon we was all heading up the footpath to Potter Heigham. The moorings were as expected, much busier than our quiet mooring spot, but there were spaces left.

Once at the bridge I headed into the Norada for a beer or two whilst Lathams was raided by the kids.

20190527_163559.thumb.jpg.78654d02b494a72a40a6c56f94540c31.jpg

They were not pleased upon their return that the bakery had just shut and deprived them of their now traditional pastry craving, but soon got over it as we enjoyed messing around in the pub for the evening.

Eventually we walked back to the boat, where my youngest once more made us a delicious tea on board

The inside of the Norada doesn't look as dark as I remember it. Have they done something to brighten it up or is it just that it's daytime "lighting"?

It's much brighter now DavidH as the front entrance has been opened up to create 2 rooms, separated by a glass partition.

It still has plenty of work to do, but it's all coming along well, and certainly seems to be doing well so far, which is a good thing IMO.

The Fur and Feathers never used to allow dogs inside, nice to know they have become dog-friendly.

That was certainly thee case recently, we rang them a couple of years ago and asked if we could take our dog in, the reply was outside only.

As it was a bit showery that day, we got into Ranworth instead and used the Malsters

We emailed them a number of years ago and ask if we could take the dog in?

The answer was everywhere but the Kitchen!  :default_icon_e_biggrin:

Because it is so close to our marina, we tend to give it a miss. The Yare however gets loads of our custom.

I have to admit I am the same Alan and seem to neglect it as it is so close to our home mooring.

It is a very nice spot on a sunny afternoon though, I do enjoy the Yare too however. And the Ram. And the......well all of the pubs :default_biggrin:
