Friday 30th March

A change to the norm today.

"The boy" had been away with his friends this week at center parks and was due back at home this afternoon.

It was left to idiot here to therefore catch a train from Somerleyton station to Norwich and then Norwich to the glamourous heights of North Derbyshire, to then collect "the boy" and return via car to Brundall in order to drop off the second car and catch another train from Brundall back to Somerleyton.

(Dieselfalcon you may gather why I wasn't aboard our boat when you passed)

Anyhow the day started for me at around 7am to the usual morning stuff

20180330_070844.thumb.jpg.b0d8f37ea4585f50a06679605029311b.jpg

before a coffee (or 2),

20180330_070909.thumb.jpg.cf912c8c7e601642d220c7a81605db06.jpg

sorting out stuff needing to return home, making a list of things to bring back and once sorted, head out in plenty of time to reach Somerleyton station in plenty of time to reach my train.

I won't bore you with the details of rail travel (what do you mean I bore you with details of my water travels :default_dry:) but know that once I hit Norwich, platforms, carriages and reservations were all changed/cancelled but I eventually made my way into the correct train to enjoy the 3-4ish hour train journey home

The journey was as unremarkable as you would expect, it is maybe worth noting however (maybe not) the toilet/bathroom on the train was absolutely filthy, so much so, the door almost burst open and having to  clean up almost caused me to miss my stop.

Anyway

All things sorted, the boy collected, we returned back to Brooms to drop off the car and with almost an hour to waste before our train to Somerleyton "The Boy" and I headed into a packed Good Friday Yare pub for a beverage until our train arrived in heavy rain.

Not My First Little French Number...

I know it doesn't look it bit it really was packed...

It seemed only suitable to nip into The Dukes Head when we reached Somerleyton for a deserved bevvy after a day of endless travel as the rain fell heavy, so we did

Log fire, country pub, ideas......

Another of those contentious pictures, sorry Mr Nog

20180330_195149.thumb.jpg.b984f7fdf81d5328f2e8207bb0a9694d.jpg

before returning to the boat, where I fell into bed exhausted with more to come......

What a day. Now I’m waiting to find out how you’re going to get two cars home! Or perhaps you hadn’t come down by car in the first place!

Sorry SwanR I should have made it clearer, one of my "crew" is able to point a car to get one home.

Whether they can drive it is subject to personal opinion however :default_smiley-angelic002:

Here's today's which pub.

Nice and easy, but I needed a pint or 10 after a boat of lads backed into the front of mine and just laughed about it :default_icon_mad:

Saturday 31st March

After the travels of the previous day what I would have loved was a long lie in.

Anyhow 3am came around and after a quick toilet break for the dog, I set off from Somerleyton to head over Breydon up north.

20180331_032616.thumb.jpg.784f986ad35779384625828821e511a5.jpg

With another boat moored fairly close we did all we could to minimise disruption and we cruised up the Waveney in the pitch black with much coffee to keep us awake.

20180331_035333.thumb.jpg.f844dcdb35ad9a4a0de8752fb5466515.jpg

Sometimes I thought the sun was about to start rising earlier than anticipated...

20180331_035749.thumb.jpg.3dbd3bbab6560bdc761bfaba42bf8347.jpg

However It didn't until much later, blooming distant lights.

All was good along the Waveney and through St Olaves bridge, we reached Breydon and proceeded to cross, the darkness up the river nothing to the absolute black over the open water area.

My youngest, having been excited by the prospect of getting up early to cruise in the dark still...yes you guessed correct, audibly snoring away in her bed. The eldest had joined me but was now fast asleep on the settee under his quilt.

A shame really, as having someone sat on my knee keeping me company and helping play spot the post would have been very helpful :default_smiley-angelic002:

We eventually reached the bridges near Yarmouth and proceeded up the Bure for the mini slog. It was apparent I had timed it almost perfect taking into account the slower progress I would make as the water was favourable for the whole journey.

20180331_060613.thumb.jpg.77239054dbeabe5e220c0cfcb5c062c6.jpg

The long trip up the Bure was ok taking into account the lack of sleep I had had by 0630 the sun really was rising

20180331_073810.thumb.jpg.a41c3db3f3faba479dde46fa55d70505.jpg

but reaching Stokesby and certainly Acle was a blessed relief.

I wasn't sure where exactly I was heading but whether I was suffering a caffeine boost (I wouldn't be surrised after the amount of coffee I had had) or purely delusions I was feeling good and headed all the way along the quiet Bure spotting all moorings full or as close as possible

After avoiding Horning Sailing Clubs boats and reaching Salhouse, I had a change of mind to head back and try Ranworth for water and the option of electric.

Having retraced my path back the way I came I was fortunate to spot a boat leaving Horning staithe just as I approached and so, with a tired but ultimately successful attempt to moor up, I claimed my spot on the staithe and began for a day of chilling out after almost 8 hours overnight cruising, visiting The Swan, The New Inn

20180331_160539.thumb.jpg.28cba50a668bfbd14806c2aacc895314.jpg

and The Ferry Inn

20180331_174942.thumb.jpg.e8bade35659246a2005e675a10e50e7e.jpg

after a long chat with a friendly local (to me) newbie about all things boats and broads.

Eventually, I returned to the boat

20180331_183228.thumb.jpg.b4d22af5f3ce85d13fad0fcfcbb2f49b.jpg

feeling tired and mardy :default_sleep: after a long but enjoyable day it was time for tea and then collapsing for a good sleep.

We saw MS at Horning Staithe yesterday afternoon and did a double take! (Having read on here you were still down south).

And then waved this morning as we passed in Horning :-)

Hope you are keeping warm.

Aha sorry my friend. I wasn't sure if it was you on Thunder this week or not.

We are all good at Potter Heigham tonight, hope you are keeping well and enjoying your time.

Give us a nudge if we see you moored up later this week :default_biggrin:

Easy peasey JF, the White Horse at Upton. :default_beerchug:

Wont mention the beer :default_norty:

You did well getting down the dyke there, its a bit narrow!

Such a shame about the muppets, I could quite  happily cruise from November to mid March and do an Andrew and sit on the wall at Reedham the rest of the year :default_norty: (unless Grace was afloat of course) :default_biggrin:

Loved the Breydon by night crossing and photos, it looks absolutely stunning at night and how brave to do it helming alone, I'd have been more than happy to sit on your knee and play spot the post :default_norty:

Smashing pics and brilliant write up, thank you babe

Sunday 1st April

A slow steady day today. After walking the dog we headed over to the Country Treats cafe and got some breakfast sandwiches to take back before a late departure at around 1030.

A slow steady trundle along the Bure which was fairly busy along the way including around 10 boats proceeding together from Hunters yard.

20180401_111146.thumb.jpg.647bba76bf713e3a23e1888c6eb16b6b.jpg

20180401_112314.thumb.jpg.a422e2b8faefcac81bc045208d0e6eee.jpg

The usual spots were busy including St Benets

20180401_112618.thumb.jpg.6f7ba035e949e5dcf12d96bc11a400c0.jpg

It was an enjoyable morning cruising along passing boats with Easter buntings displayed.

20180401_113411.thumb.jpg.d450237dd88fb96b45be960e5d66746f.jpg

Heading up the Thurne to Potter Heigham which was full on the public moorings

20180401_121644.thumb.jpg.811d2a3aaa7fd5088feb39b95a842cb1.jpg

so we headed into Herbert Woods yard to fill with water and pop into the village.

Lathams was closed so we walked the dog and accidentally :default_smiley-angelic002: just happened to pass the Falgate pub and felt it rude not to stop for a quickie.

20180401_133521.thumb.jpg.5569ff2fad09b48d74652c8d5fdcbfeb.jpg

After a few drinks we headed back to the boat and decided to stay in Potter for a night onboard playing games and later, having some lovely conversation.
