Broads Sailing Festival - 24th June

Recommended Posts

The 5 sailing hire businesses who recently joined together to promote sailing have created a new event. They have worked with the Friends of St Catherine's in Ludham, who organise the Ludham Open Gardens every 2 years (this is the "off year") to create a Broads Festival of Sailing.

Should be a really great show. Hunters, Eastwood Whelpton, Matham boats, Oliver's Sailing Holidays, and Buttifants are all involved.

It was,

it was originally developed for  US police, but escaped into CB lingo. And of course when CB came over to the UK it came too, helped by some very silly films.!

Few know the first ten numbers let alone the rest. As I've not used CB in 30 years I don't remember most of it, though I found one of my two old CB sets the other day. I'm intending to fit one to the landrover and one to the motorboat.

I have long been suggesting that CB radio is perfect for inland waterways boats, especially the broads. I used to have two hancles, 'The Pommie, and Xerox. I loved it when people would call up "Hey Xerox, do you copy?"

That joke is so bad, you just have to laugh.:default_biggrin:

To avoid confusion for those that do not know Ludham well. The event will be held in Horsefen Road where Hunters etc are based.

The Parking is in Staithe Road, which runs parallel to Horsefen Road on the other side of Womack Water, hence the ferry.

Parking in Horsefen is at a premium and I know that The Friends of Hunters Yard try to car share when they hold functions, so parking in Staithe Road is good news.

Lovely event in a beautiful setting. A lot of hard work must have gone into it's planning and execution.

I think the fact that England had a game in the middle of the day has probably not helped the attendance figures.

Still I enjoyed it very much and got to helm a Rebel at Hunters. Never sailed a Rebel before, what a beautiful handling boat. So glad that I went.

It would be fantastic to see a lot more sails over the marshes in years to come.

Who couldn't agree with that. The quintessential broads view, 'High skies, wide open marshes, windmills and white sails'. Something straight out of an Edward Seago painting...

Edward Seago, is in the top of my top ten Artists. A man not with out controversy, destroying half his work before death and the experts still can not agree as to his style impressionist or post-impressionist.

He was very firmly a favourite of the Royal Family and the Queen sits behind his most beautiful of silver sculptures  when she rides in her official cars "St George slaying the dragon" by Seago is removable and can be transfered from car to car replacing the manufacturers mascots. It is only used when her Majesty is travelling within the vehicle.
