honda 2hp outboard

Recommended Posts

I bought a little dingy the weekend for a very reasonable price lol

the outboard on it is fairly new a 2003 model

the people i got it from are the sort that money is no object they always have loads of work done on their normal boat

anyway the outboard is playing up big time

it started 1st time but ran rough, very rough

it has been stood for at least a year in their garage with no fuel in....

she started fine when cold but as soon as she got hot she cut out and wouldn't start

anyway we stripped the carb out and cleaned it and cleaned the plug.

still no joy

so i have put a new plug in

stripped the carb apart completely and cleaned it with carb cleaner

put some redex only a capfull in the tank (tank is only 1l)

and half filled the tank

ran it and ran and its loads better but

at anything more than half revs it is really rough

but if you pull the choke very slightly it really improves it for a short while but after a time it seems to die again

so you back the throttle off and she's fine

she ticks over brill and starts now hot or cold on the 1st pull

so its only the high end revs

i would suspect fuel starving but as i have cleaned it 3 times i can't see how

the jet is clean as a whistle been sprayed and poked and all sorts lol

its not the cooling as its air cooled and not water

any ideas please

I think there is some instant gaskit in one of my boxes, maybe try some of that on the carb gasket, there is a mixture screw i think, maybe give that a tiny tweak but make a mental note of where it was though
