A Summer's Tale

Jay, I love your cruising tales, broadside pubs guide, fridge inventories and much more besides. All the best for your next chapter, I hope it continues to bring us all more of your banter, summer or winter, day or night time, goodbye ‘shadow but hopefully not the end of the mooring line?

Thanks so much for all of your lovely messages everyone, soooooo many changes and happenings in my life right now, but all will become clearer in the near future I hope. Obviously some people know more than others (ahem :default_rolleyes: ) but we will see just what the future holds.

Incidentally, how often do you have to turn down the offer of a coffee with an absolute stunner of a woman like I had to this morning??? I'll be making up for that when I can :default_norty:

Well, it looks a bit ‘distressed’, whether deliberate ‘fashionista’ pub decor or just neglect I couldn’t say. You didn’t cheat by getting your daughter to take a photo of the ladies in the Yare by any chance? Not that I’ve been in there yet.

Helen.  I’ve read that The Yare has been spruced up a bit, but it would surely ruin the ‘character’ of the place if it were to be decorated like that!!!  You really must visit when you’re next on MS and you’ll see what I mean. 😉😉

The Yare spruced up! Good grief. It wouldn't be the same without the plastic table cloths and all the gubbins on the ceiling. However my spies tell me there was some cleaning going on before they re-opened.

I wouldn't put anything past him Helen!! Very few pubs have sash windows - only one a can think of is the Lion but its not there. I've an idea the Reedcutter does too, but painted white from memory.

Monday 27th July

A good dose of booze the evening before celebrating/commiserating had helped to give me a better sleep despite all. I woke around 0630 to a windy and overcast St Olaves, and as the kettle warmed the water to a boil, I took the dog out onto the bank to do what she needed to do.

I sat with a coffee watching boats come and go along the river, most mainly taking the route I planned to follow up the Waveney and over Breydon Water.....all in good time, another coffee beckoned

From the 3 boats that had been on the moorings, one had left to cross to the North last night, and the second left slightly ahead of me, but around 0910 I was sorting my ropes out in order to turn the boat on her lines and head up the river to begin my journey t'north

20200727_091133.thumb.jpg.4295b731d0f72ba4cd5d9c3eba14903b.jpg

The skies cleared as we progressed and I was joined by a number of boats far more urgently seeking Yarmouth than I was, but by 0936 I was about to cross Breydon once again20200727_093626.thumb.jpg.04e1f5a816dfccf6167b508b88f1a515.jpg

The crossing was busier than I've seen it in a while, more heading South than North too :facepalm:but it was a gentle cross and once through the Yarmouth bridges I continued up the Bure for the resultant couple of hours in relative peace.

It was almost 1245 when we reached Acle Bridge and so spinning around I moored us up against the incoming tide on the pub moorings

As is the norm, I toddled off for a few socially distanced beers at the Bridge Inn before once again heading off up the Bure and then joining the Thurne.

The kids obviously wanted to raid the bakery at Lathams as is the usual for those people who wish to fill their bodies with rubbish........I had other plans however and was soon looking at bits and bobs in the locality, abley assisted by the information gained from the (shhhh secret) forum member :default_biggrin:

The Falgate didn't open until 5pm, and so when the kids rejoined me, we headed back to the boat for an evening onboard....being spied on badly :default_ph34r: (should I post the payback?? :default_norty:) with some enjoyable company and conversation before heading off to bed once more, thoughts of the views overlooking the boatyard

By him do you mean moi??? :default_biggrin:

It deffo has been spruced up Mr Nog and as always is most definitely worth a visit as you pass.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but worthy of your time if you can manage to spare a minute for a pint in my opinion :default_beerchug:

The Bell, St Olaves.

can anyone else tell that I’ve not actually visited any of the said establishments and am just wildly guessing?

Never!!!  :default_biggrin:

You should visit them though Helen!!! :default_beerchug:

Looks to me like a sash window and there are very few on the Broads that I can recollect.

oh Mr Nog really, you struggle to drag Mr and Mrs Helen out of the alcoholic establishments believe me. Many a time I've seen Mrs YnysMon being escorted kicking and screaming from the Grebe pub insisting she'll fight anyone coming near her pints of Stella :default_hiding:

So where’s The Grebe? You do realise that Mr Helen (I haven’t yet told him that’s his name from now on🤣) is TT.

You know it is in Stalham, and you  have told us he is TT Helen, yet nobody believes you when we see him getting drunkenly abusive and aggressive at the AGM each year and insisting we all hit the bar at the mid session interval  :default_biggrin:
