Enough Is Enough Already!

Dropping Ellie back off at work after lunch I popped into the local newsagents to be confronted by...a display of Christmas Stocking Fillers, selection boxes and various other Christmas fayre including mistletoe and Santa hats...and advent calendars. This was not just some local business having a clearout. Oh no, this is a national chain of shops. It is AUGUST for crying out loud! The kids are still on their summer holidays. So I did something I rarely do and spread a little summer Ebeneezer around. Christmas starts on the 24th of December, not a day earlier, and lasts for twelve days and ends. I then bought humbugs, cancelled all of my magazine and newspaper subscriptions and left the premises never to set foot through the door again. Rant over...pass me a Pims?

A colleague once started his Christmas Assembly on commercialism with ‘It’s Christmas, it’s Christmas there are Easter Eggs in Tesco’s ‘

My personal hate is Back to School’  on the first day of the holidays. Mean.

Commercialism just means that the shops are always selling for the season ahead. Bought my Christmas cards at the air show back in June so we could support the RAF. And I’ve seen a couple of things that will be perfect for one of my family so fully intend to buy them while we’re in Lowestoft this week!

I would support a law being passed stating nothing christmas related is allowed till December the 1st at the earliest.

If Christmas is in your face 6 months of the year its no fun when it actually comes round.

The Managers ( and Staff)  at Tescos used to hate it when the Easter eggs arrived.  They knew cages of them would sit in the back of the warehouse blocking space.  While all the punters were buying 4weeks food for 1week over the Christmas new-year period.  The huge increase in through put over the period means  they end up with cages of food,  lining corridors and every available space.  Many stores hire in a freezer container just for the turkey.

WELL SAID TIMBO.

I've been saying for many years that shops should NEVER be allowed to sell, show, or promote anything to do with Christmas before the 1st of December. I couldn't give a toss what anybody else thinks, but I absolutely LOVE Christmas, and think all big business does by doing what Timbo says is cheapen and ruin one of the greatest times of the year, and all for money. There are SOME things in life which are more important than profit, and Christmas, and Easter come to that, are just two of them.

One prime example I can remember was seeing a box of mince pies packed in a Christmas themed box, and the use by date was late November ......

And if when we're on Lightning in mid November this year, we see any boats with Christmas decorations of any kind festooned all over them, i'l be shouting HUMBUG through a loud hailor at you all night long.

That's the spirit.     I just love SpeedTripple's post.      Isnt that what we had stocks for in the past.    I can think of quite a few who I would like to put in them.  Starting with the Management of these large stores.     The actual meaning of Christmas will be lost I am sure in generations to come if we are not careful.   Not only that but the magic of little ones at Christmas and what it means to them.   It isnt about expensive gifts and who can out do the next person and thereby getting into more debt it is not that at all.     Hopefully it is a time for good cheer and being kind to folk.
