Ok a clue for number 2, erm. Well it's one of my favourites, a regular first nighter for me, oh and here's the access path from the mooring

Ha!! Got to be the Dukes Head, I'd recognise that path anywhere, been there, got the T shirt. More fun in winter avoiding the puddles in the dark

I've been in loads of times but didn't recognise the view, is that in the posh bit looking towards the peasants bit?

It most certainly is a well trodden path to the pub. Grace and I went into the "posh bit", I took the photo and then was asked to move over to the "peasants bit".

Strangely enough, Grace was allowed to stay. Maybe Mrs Nog was right about me all along (Don't tell her though)

Have you guessed them all now? I've lost count.

I wouldn't go nearly as far as genius JF! Struggling a bit with these. Got 2 with a bit of help but missed the Bear and Bells completely. Years ago they had a fantastic patio out at the back with trellis and mirrors, very exotic. It all seems to have disappeared now. Last time I went in (must be a couple of years ago) the beer was a bit pedestrian so not been in since. We will make a point of having a look next time.

I certainly would sir, you've amazed me over previous "Tales" with your knowledge hence why I tried mixing it up a little.

Maybe another slight tweek is in order for future games.

I always enjoy the input of the Nogs in my pointless ramblings regardless

I wouldn't know about that Mr Nog, I mean how would I know a decent beer anyway  but I find the pub friendly and enjoy my time in there and so I'd say give it at least one more chance.

The Bell at St Olaves? Whatever the pub, can you tell the management next time you go in that they've either got some flood damage on the wall where the radiator is, or they need to get dpc treatment....xx

Monday 29th October

We had a gentle relaxing start to the day once more, dog walking and coffee the usual stuff.

I used the water facility at Beccles Yacht Station to fill up after I had a shower, our boat at the extreme limit to the water hose so I had to make the whole reel up afterwards back on the stand. 

Everyone else decided that they too would have a morning shower just as I finished so half and hour later I had the pleasure of undoing all of my earlier work and running the hose out once more before making the entire length up again afterwards. 

After having a talk with the boat users moored beside us it was time to have a late departure back up the River Waveney in pleasant October sunshine, with the occasional cloud cover, it was a peaceful enjoyable cruise nevertheless.

It was around 1245 when we were passing the empty moorings of the Waveney Centre so we decided to stop off and have a refreshment break.

The kids decided that they would like something off the menu for dinner so they had a light bite as we enjoyed the fairly busy Waveney Inn. We actually was enjoying it so much we stayed for a lot longer than planned, and in the end it was just after 1500 when we departed again.

We had decided Tuesday would be the day to head up north and so initially I was going to go to Loddon tonight,  but seeing as we had stayed a little longer than planned at the Waveney Centre I thought I would try for St Olaves instead.

It was a beautiful cruise once more watching the setting sun so ill shut up for a minute and put some pictures up

Every mooring at Somerleyton and Herringfleet was free and The Bell moorings before St Olaves bridge had only one boat moored. Changing it I passed by and found that the BA moorings at St Olaves were also empty. Bonus.

Mooring up I then headed off with the dog for a walk as everyone else remained aboard reading their books. I was gone for a good while and by the time I returned everyone had got themselves all ready for an evening in the pub.

Well that was a shame 

Not wanting to disappoint anyone I reluctantly headed out for a beer or two, I love The Bell very nice pub and they serve a great pint of Stella.

Once finished we headed bake to the boat for a simple tea and then everyone headed off to bed ready for an early start tomorrow. Which is strange because I'm sure I'll be the only one up when we set off in the morning as usual.

Tuesday 30th October

I'm sure I predicted that this mornings departure would have been me alone whilst everyone continued to knock out the zzzzzz's

I predicted well. 

A restless night meant I was awake well before my scheduled alarm hoping to set off from St Olaves by 7. In fact I was sat drinking coffee at 0500 and thinking about what I would like to be getting up to this morning.

My fingers were itching to do their thing and I headed into the aft cabin and dragged the dog as she desperately clung to her half of the bed, looking up at me questioning why on earth I was disturbing her at such an hour.

Once given the freedom of a comfort break she was towelled down and replaced back onto her side of the bed, and I made a coffee ready for on the go.

As expected the tide was ripping through St Olaves helping me depart from the mooring solo handed as is the norm.

It was a cold, wet grey morning. The kind of day that sinks your heart at home, but I set of into the pouring rain (really pouring) and obstructive wind headed back up the Waveney heading for Breydon and the northern broads.

I took my time meandering along the river

And once onto Breydon with the opposing forces of the tide and the wind creating playful peaks and troughs to ride through, I was having far too much fun.

Suddenly a face appeared to the side of me, the boy had woken from the vibrations of the waves in his cabin and soon set about making me a coffee, there was very little chance that my youngest would appear anytime soon, it wasn't near enough 1200 for her to even consider beginning to stir.

The fun of a lively Breydon was soon over as the rain continued to lash down constantly, and reaching the bridges of Yarmouth in the region of 0830, around the predicted slack passage time we were offered 8'3" under the bridges.

I headed up the Bure, seeing the dredging works taking place but there were no boats around, and only one boat moored at Yarmouth Yacht Station, I pressed on past the Stracey Arms and Stokesby, until I found the BA moorings at Acle deserted.

Looking at the high water level almost topping the bank I wasn't too surprised but we needed a stop and with a wind blowing us off the bank I felt secure enough for a quick stop off.

Incidentally, The Bridge Inn moorings at Acle are now free of charge until around Easter.

After a comfort break for the dog, a quick shower for myself and a coffee to top up the caffeine levels we set off once more, for a short journey onwards to Potter Heigham.

The quiet moorings were all empty but the public moorings were pretty busy, I managed to bag a space near the electric post regardless and it was decided that we would stay here for the remains of the day.

Everyone went off shopping for things they didn't need in Lathams, and also the usual buns from the bakery, whilst I restrained myself and enjoyed a healthy beer or three in the Norada.

It wasn't too long after returning to the boat, the kids enjoying a chippie tea,  that they decided they were too tired tonight and went off to bed, leaving me alone to lay back on the settee and fall asleep.

Err, some lights and a dark night

 

And...some rain....(Oh and a bit of the Halloween decorations to the bow of the boat)

Corr I waffled on there didn't I 

Because the weather was so horrendous, I didn't get many pics, and you are probably wondering why I got the ones I did 

Better weather hopefully tomorrow and some more interesting (And less bizarre) pictures.

I'm enjoying your tale Jay, a great read. :)

I haven't moored overnight at Potter Heigham in years but do enjoy visiting there. Do you get much road noise at the moorings?

For me a trip to PH is not complete without a visit to the tea rooms. ;)

We are at the farthest point from the road tbh, but no I can't say I recall any intrusive road noise at all.

I see you are up and about early as always Jay. Have a great day. I'm so looking forward to getting back out on the rivers next year. Until then we're back at the caravan soon and I'm sure we will get across to the Broads one more time before we close up for the season. :)
