It's great to be another year on and still see the forum as alive as ever, full of interesting debate and good friendship.

Three sleeps to go so have a lovely Christmas everyone, safe travels to anyone yet to journey to their Christmas destination and happy cruising to those folk lucky enough to be afloat. :default_xmas6:

I should add that I'm not a chemist - my father was a crystalographer (Reader in Chemistry @ Manchester University) & my daughter works in the toxialogical lab of the forensic department of UKE (Hamburg University Hospital) so there is some family trait there.

On the other hand myself, my (German) wife & son are computer scientists...

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and looking forward to a new year.

I love this Poem - Guess who wrote it? :)

It has been a difficult year for some, thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Ring out the grief that saps the mind
For those that here we see no more;
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.

Ring out a slowly dying cause,
And ancient forms of party strife;
Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.

Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes
But ring the fuller minstrel in.

Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.

Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

Every Christmas this one gets trotted out here - those who did "O"-Level German at school should manage:

Quote

Denglish Christmas Poem

When the snow falls wunderbar
And the children happy are,
When the Glatteis on the street,
And we all a Glühwein need,
Then you know, es ist soweit:
She is here, the Weihnachtszeit

Every Parkhaus ist besetzt,
Weil die people fahren jetzt,
All to Kaufhof, Mediamarkt,
Kriegen nearly Herzinfarkt.
Shopping hirnverbrannte things
And the Christmasglocke rings.

Merry Christmas, merry Christmas,
Hear the music, see the lights,
Frohe Weihnacht, Frohe Weihnacht,
Merry Christmas allerseits...

Mother in the kitchen bakes
Schoko-, Nuss- and Mandelkeks
Daddy in the Nebenraum
Schmücks a Riesen-Weihnachtsbaum
He is hanging auf the balls,
Then he from the Leiter falls...

Finally the Kinderlein
To the Zimmer kommen rein,
And es sings the family
Schauerlich: "Oh, Chistmastree!"
And the jeder in the house
Is packing die Geschenke aus.

Merry Christmas, merry Christmas,
Hear the music, see the lights,
Frohe Weihnacht, Frohe Weihnacht,
Merry Christmas allerseits...

Mama finds unter the Tanne
Eine brandnew Teflon-Pfanne,
Papa gets a Schlips and Socken,
Everybody does frohlocken.
President speaks in TV,
All around is Harmonie.

Bis mother in the kitchen runs:
Im Ofen burns the Weihnachtsgans.
And so comes die Feuerwehr,
With Tatü, tata daher...

And they bring a long, long Schlauch
An a long, long Leiter auch.
And they schrei loud - "Wasser marsch!",
Christmas is now - voll im Arsch...

Merry Christmas, merry Christmas,
Hear the music, see the lights,
Frohe Weihnacht, Frohe Weihnacht,
Merry Christmas allerseits...

Many thanks Alan, and a special wish for your good self and all your family, as this must be a very difficult time for you.

Also, a special wish for Paul (Peta`s Joy, formerly Paul and Lorna), and all your family, also a difficult time of year this year.

I hope ALL those that we have lost are happy up there looking down on us?.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone

Ive been a member of the forum for just over a year now and Selsie and I have met many of you in person this year and made some wonderful new friends both in person via the Spring Meet and DIY SOS and chatted to many via the quiz and chat on here.  I've never belonged to a forum before but truly thankful that I joined this one.  Boating has completely changed our lives for the better.

Raising a virtual glass (i dont drink) to all of you and to those that we have sadly lost this year x

A very Merry little Christmas to you all

My thoughts go out to Alan and Paul, I know your Christmas will be sad, I hope you get some comfort from your memories, I will be raising a glass to you. Not forgetting our pesky mod Iain, those of you that didn't have the honour of knowing him (Broadscot) he was one of the nicest people you could come to know, I still miss him

All the very best to you all
