Fenders Up Or Down When Underway

I have seen more than one fender ripped from a boat when leaving a mooring. Trying to drive forward with the wheel hard locked has probably led to the demise of many a fender!

As a result yours truly has never bought a fender!

Perhaps we need a new thread, one on how to leave your mooring without losing a fender or smacking the back end of your boat!

I’m afraid that one word wouldn’t mean very much to a newbie or someone still fairly new to boating and boating terms!

Ropes, fenders, cheesing, springs.

Get on your boat, get a beer, grab your girl (or bloke) and have ruddy fun.

If you want to put your fenders up, do so, if you don't then leave the buggers down, as long as everyone is safe and respectful of others and their property who really cares as long as you are enjoying yourself.

Just don't drag them in the water

probably due to the lighter mornings and fenestration.

Not a subject I've given that much thought to, so long as the fenders aren't 'dragging' in the water when underway and doing the job they're intended for, when moored, then all's fine.

My fore and aft mooring ropes are always led back to the centre cockpit,  as I normally single handely moor up it's the only safe way.  Springs are added after if required.

Sadly Tim has said that his actions and comments are done to make good TV. He has been boating a similar time to me since the mid 70's so we both should have learnt a thing or two since then.
