Please find attached ABP Notice to Mariners No. 5 of 2019 regarding transits of unmanned surface vessel for survey operations off the Norfolk coast and the independent XOcean Notice for relevant information.

Mariners and Port Users are advised that hydrographic survey operations, off the
Norfolk Coast, are scheduled to commence 17th March. These will be conducted using
an unmanned surface vessel, operated by ‘XOcean’, which will be remotely controlled
by a USV ‘Pilot’. The vessel is capable of working 24/7. The USV has AIS, Navigation
lights and a radar reflector. The duration of the survey work is approximately 3 weeks
and is subject to favourable weather conditions.
The vessel will transit to and from the survey area from the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk
Marina in Lowestoft Outer Harbour area. When transiting Harbour areas the USV will
be escorted by RIB Typhoon. The RIB will be monitoring VHF Ch14 during Harbour
A copy of the XOcean NTM is attached with this notice.

Activity: Operation of one or two Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV’s) is planned off the coast of Great Yarmouth. The USV(s) will be mobilised from Norfolk and Suffolk Marina from where they will transit to/from the area of operation. During the operation the USV(s) will be performing a Hydrographic Survey of the area shown below.
Dates: 24-hour operations are planned from w/c 17th March for approximately 3 weeks subject to weather conditions.
Location: The USV(s) will remain clear of all restricted areas, performing survey lines bounded by:

▪ 52°45.323 N 002°17.608 E
▪ 52°49.763 N 001°45.644 E

The USV sends real time images and situational awareness data over 4G/Satellite to a team of operators keeping watch and controlling the vessel remotely 24/7.

Safety Precautions: The USV is equipped with the following to make it conspicuous to other marine traffic:
▪ Navigation Lights & Sounds
▪ Active Radar Reflector
▪ Superstructure Painted Yellow
When operating within the Great Yarmouth harbour limits, the USV(s) will be accompanied by a safety boat.
Seafarers are asked to avoid contact with the vessel and be aware of the operational area during this period.
