Oh, by the way, The Troll Cart pub in Great Yarmouth serves full English breakfasts. I know a lot of people on this forum do not like Wetherspoons but their breakfasts are quite passable and very reasonably priced.

MM, It's on the left opposite the Jet petrol station in the centre of Coltishall. About 15mins walk from The Rising Sun. If you time it right and go there for Brunch, there is then the excellent Red Lion for early lunch to wash down brunch on the way back. :default_beerchug:

Or, better still, moor at the lock, 2 minute walk, belly buster breakfast, 3 bangers, 3 bacon, 3 eggs scramblled, 3 black pudding scrambled, mushrooms, and baked beans. Forget toast or fried bread, it just takes up space for the main event. AND, all washed down with 2 mugs of good old English breakfast tea, or if a warm summers day, Earl Grey.  Finished off with a good long walk along the upper Bure navigation to walk it off, jusyt in time for lunch perhaps, and NOT in the pub?.

I have no doubt, BUT,,,   I had one of the "big" style breakfasts in a Weatherspoons a while back, and whilst all the ingredients were there, the flavour/quality was not. Don't get  me wrong, If you're hungry and all that's available is a Weatherspoons, it's not a bad option, but it there's a decent café to be found, it'll almost certainly be the better place.

I suspect the same can be said of supermarket cafes, I know it is in Tesco's.

To Hylander...

Sorry John, but i`m going to have to agree with you again :default_laugh:.

Karen and i met up with a works (at the time) colleague in a Weatherspoons down here in Dorset. It was many years back admittedly, but my mixed grill was by far and away, the absolute worst meal i`ve ever had. It was so dry and chewy, it had obviously been re-heated a dozen times. The end result is i`ve never eaten in a Weatherspoons EVER AGAIN. In fact we never use them now anyway, especially with me being allergic to alcahol (sorry again John, i just had to say it :default_gbxhmm::default_laugh:).

Wetherspoons???? Breakfast?????

Why the hell would you waste valuable stomach space for food when there is a perfectly good pint of Stella available at the bar.

Just the thing at 9 in the morning.....or any other time :default_beerchug:

I sometimes use a huge breakfast to enable me to keep going through the day until a smallish main meal at the end of a day, a good breakfast can set you up for a hard days work.

It`s long been said Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, i think they`re right.

The relaxation of the pubs opening hours etc has been proven to be the worst decision made. Personally, with alcahol being sold in supermarkets etc, there`s absolutely no need for pubs to be open as they often are now.

I`d love to see them going back to the original opening times, 10 - 2 (12 - 2 on Sundays), and 7 - 11 (7 - 10.30 on Sundays) and be religiously adhered to.

The one thing i find worrying is when you read on this forum how much time people spend in pubs, and what`s worse, when people ask for guidance on moorings, 90% of the time, advice is given in relation to moorings purely and simply because there`s a pub there, or in walking distance.

I thought a boating holiday on the Broads was about enjoying the peace and quiet and getting away from normal life?.

Personally when pubs are having to close left right and centre I think it's great when you see people trying to make use of them whenever they can.

A boating holiday is whatever you chose to make of it, I for instance love to cruise all day long from morning to night, the destination usually is wherever I am when I need a break whether there is a pub or not. I'm more than happy to spend the evening having a walk out for an hour or two to get to wherever is the nearest, or moor up right outside one.

Supermarket booze is fine, but it doesn't replace the atmosphere and socialism of a good old English pub, nor does it keep the pubs, their landlords and staff and to a degree the breweries in work and allowing those people to earn their honest pay and contribute to society.

I understand you don't drink like many and that is fine, but some people do and those people enjoy the benefits and companionship a pub provides.

Each to their own I say, without trying to claim one way is better than another.

Cheers :default_beerchug:

So, what about if ALL beer was "alcohol free", would you still enjoy a drink with "the atmosphere of a local pub"?.  I wonder how many people are there for the ACOHOL rather than the atmosphere and conversation.  That`s the most worrying aspect, and NOT just around the broads.  And also, remember what people do, how much trouble is caused, and how people can get hurt, even killed, because of alcohol. If ALL drinks were alcohol free, the tragedies of life would be reduced. We`ve all read on this forum how alcohol has resulted in some people getting injured, and it`s also worth remembering the burden put our emergency services, hospitals, and the forces of law and order, purely because of alcohol.

There are a lot of people in our society are bordering on being alcoholic, the big problem is they refuse to believe and act upon it.

I`m allergic to alcohol, and glad of it. My life has been much more economical, and enjoyable because of it. I would`nt be able to enjoy many of the hobbies and past times id do if i regularly drank alcohol.  It also helps that i don`t like the taste of a lot of alcoholic drinks.

A pub is often the focal point of a village and if lost the whole community suffers .

as far  as 24/7 opening hours is concerned , the major problem to this is that 24/7 is very rarely the case the real truth is that a few city centre pubs are now opening till 0300 or 0400 and this means the youngsters are “predrinking” often unsupervised and are drunk by the time they are going out at 00:00 , since the change of licensing hours I have seen a huge increase of drunkenness on the city streets!!!

back to breakfasts , we tend to preorder meat from Horning butchers and cook a very very tasty breakfast aboard with the excellent bacon and sausages from them .

Life is about choices and opinions though mate, the fact people choose different options, opinions and paths in life is what makes living so great and diverse.

I completely respect your choice, whatever the reason, for not drinking just like I respect how.....ooh complete random..... Mr Nog let's say :default_biggrin: enjoys a beer in a bar (alright he refuses the good old Stella but still)

Now of course there are the idiots, but idiots will find a way to be an idiot with or without an excess of beer, we can't start condemning pubs and tarring all users of them as the same as those.

In your first quote (of me), your next two lines answer my point perfectly, you DON`T say whether or not you would drink in a pub if all the bear, spirits, wines etc, were ALL alcohol free.

My question to you now (and others who frequent pubs) is a direct, Would you still drink in a pub if you knew ALL the drinks were alcohol free?. It`s a simple yes or no answer question, with absolutely NO need for issue dodging answers about choices etc, so, again, "would you still drink in a pub if ALL drinks were alcohol free?" Yes, or No?. If you answer with another sentence about choises etc, or choose not to answer at all, you made my point.

Another question worth asking is, if there were absolutely NO pubs beside or within walking distance of the rivers, how many people would still do a Broads holiday?.  I wonder what issue dodging answers that question will get?.

I would much prefer an afternoon tea, or cream tea myself, then an evening fishing.
