The Future Of Fibreglass

Bill is a friend of mine and can confirm that he's had a few health issues.

More than that I won't say, it's for him to fill in the blanks if he so wishes.

Only a few short years ago, a nearby boatyard did consider buying one

or two to refurbish and add to their hire fleet. Sadly this never happened.

I know Maffets had a couple, one of which we hired, the other they tidied up and sold. The one we hired was an Aqua fibre 32 aft cockpit, which they called Jay. We hired her specifically to attend an autumn forum meet at the Coldham Hall. It was a great event, which does'nt happen these days.

Bill purchased 4 of these boats from Kris Cruisers when I worked there, 2 x AF32 aft cockpits, 1 x Alpha 31 aft cockpit and the AF42.  The AF42 was originally from NBYC and was a really nice handling boat - if only I had some spare cash !

That's a sad sight, the BMC2.5 was as sweet as a nut as well.  I can remember painting that hull, seemed to go on for ever !

Yeah it's such a shame. I love those boats, particularly (and I know some will disagree) the MK1 with the moulded seat / hatch on the foredeck.

A classic design, built like brick sh outhouses and turn on a sixpence.

Those things handle brilliantly, though a quick look at the underside tells you why!

If I had a weekend, several bucket loads of hot soapy water, a couple of scrubbers, and a jet washer, that would clean up well. The hull would need compounding, but she would look tidy. The inside would be a different kettle of fish though.
