NOTICE TO MARINERS
YACHT RACING – LOWESTOFT SOUTH AND PAKEFIELD ROADS 12th
to 15th AUGUST 2019
Mariners and Port-Users are advised that sailing events are taking place off Lowestoft
between 12th and 15th August.
Morning races are scheduled to take place between approx. 1100hrs and 1230hrs, and
afternoon racing between 1430hrs and 1600hrs.
Some of the racing (predominantly morning events) are likely to be racing closer to, or
just in the Stanford Channel. Event participants have been made aware of the
requirement to give way to commercial vessel traffic using the Stanford Channel.
All vessels are requested to give the racing as wide a berth as is safe and practical.
Vessels should also consider reducing speed/vessel wash if this is likely to have an
adverse affect on racing craft. In all circumstances the International regulations for
Preventing Collisions at Sea (1972 COLREGS) must be observed and adhered to.
The events will be supported by various safety boats and RIBs. They will use private
VHF channels for regulating the event, but craft will also monitor VHF Channel 14.
Mariners are also requested to consider the large number of craft that will be transiting
to and from Lowestoft Harbour immediately before and after the racing events.
Please contact Lowestoft Port Control, VHF Ch14, or Tel. 01502 572286, if further
information is required.
