The Greatest Dancer Bbc 1

Recommended Posts

Okay it's not strictly, but not bad.Just seen a lady dancing, amazingly shes 98,and could still dance brilliantly. If you've not seen the programme before the idea is they dance behind a mirror. If the audience like an act they vote for them, once 75% vote the mirror opens. There are some really good dancers.

I watched a bit of this last year. But for me there’s now too much reality tv. The Masked Singer and The Voice both started this evening on ITV. And Dancing on Ice is back tomorrow.

Far too much. It's just cheap uninspiring programming to fill the schedules. I find much better content available on youtube, little gems such as this.

I think theres room for a large selection of TV.For me I like at times good factual, historical tv,sport, crime drama and yes light entertainment .I like many grow up with just 3 channels, now theres hundreds. And yes theres good the bad and the ugly. I've spent most of my life working hard often long days be it as a chef or in the community,so at times I just what to switch off.

I must admit I’m not watching much TV nowadays. Mostly watch YouTube. I have complete fallen for an American couple who are almost up to their goal of visiting 100 counties. What I love about them is that they are so respectful of each culture they visit, and they prefer to go to un-touristy places.

I will check out those YouTube recommendations. Like you, Ian, I grew up on three channels but so often I can’t find anything I really want to watch even though we’ve got Netflix on top of cable tv.

There are a lot of good YouTube channels and quite a number of narrow boaters. Found a channel called Floating Our Boat. We’ve spent the last few weeks watching them right from the start. A couple a similar age to us who decided to become continuous cruisers. It’s been really interesting to see how they have got on, what worked and what didn’t. Would recommend them.

We never watch any reality t.v. It's just not entertaining. Strictly is  the only thing we watch in that sort of genre and I don't see that as reality t.v.. You couldn't pay me to watch The Voice or X factor and as for Big brother or I'm a Celebrity. Don't even go there!  I hear my daughter and her family wax lyrical about this fatuous twaddle and  know for certain that  the  generation gap is alive and kicking!

This morning I watched what I thought was a lovely programme from last night - Britain's Most Scenic Railway Journey: Minute By Minute. It was on Channel 5 and was the journey from the foothills of Ben Nevis to the port of Mallaig. Very little commentary as well which was great, just the sound of the steam train and the tracks. It has definitely made me think about stepping away from Norfolk for a holiday later in the year ... maybe!

Yes, we turned onto that just after it started. Very enjoyable especially as we travelled on that line a few years ago. Another good narrow boat channel on Youtube is "Cruising the cut". We enjoy watching that one.

Fed up at the prospect of another evening of dismal boring T.V. We took ourselves off to the cinema and saw Little Women. This was a much loved book from my childhood, read over and over and the film didn't disappoint. Tony was a bit reluctant to see it understandably until I reminded   him that I once sat through Platoon and Full Metal jacket! He actually said that Little Women wasn't as bad as he feared even if it did skip between time zones - a pet hate of his in both films and books. I can thoroughly recommend this film. I found the casting superb with the main protagonists looking exactly as I had pictured them all those years ago.

I started The Two Popes but lost interest halfway through.

Someone else has also recommended the latest version of Little Women to me. The film with Elizabeth Taylor and June Allyson was always part of my childhood Christmases.

To be Fair Mike, this post is in the non broads related area, and its clear what the subject matter is if you didnt want to read it, plus it is throwing up several new youtube channels for us to watch, instead of watching TV,

Since before christmas, today was the first day i watched tv as i had finished the binge watch of a new (to me) youtube channel, i generally only watch the talking pictures channel on tv though.

Very true if anyone doesn't like a post ignore it .Surely this or for that matter any forum should not only highlight one topic. In our case Boats and the broads. Both of which are of course main interests to us all. However there are many other things as a group we talk about and I hope it continues .

There are a lot of specialised forums that wont allow off topic chat at all, so here we have the one area where off topic is allowed, and yes while you can ignore a topic if you wish, think of the poor moderation team that have to wade through every post however trivial, just in case.

and here I must thank all the moderator team for the hard work they do keeping the forum the nice friendly welcoming place it is.

The Broadscot Lounge

Non Broads/Boat related topics and Discussions...………..That's what it says on the tin and long may it continue

That's what I love about this forum, we can discuss almost anything, if you don't want to get involved then don't read it
