Not A Good Start To The Year.

On the 22 December last year, sadly Poppy our eldest cat passed from our life.We are still coming to terms with her passing. Last week Cici our other cat became unwell. She like all our animals was treated by our local vet. They have always been very good with all our pets, however then are unsure exactly what's wrong with her.She was referred to a hospital in Potters Bar.They still are not sure what's wrong with her.Marina phoned me earlier, they will do more tests, but it does not look good.

On a personal note I feel bad for Marina, because at the moment I'm working from 14.00 to 22.00.So Marina is dealing with all this on her own.We really hope that Cici pulls through this, but it doesn't look good.

Some may say it's only a cat.Pets for us are family and improve our life.Cici and Poppy both loving cats.We just want Cici home.

I too feel that pets are family, we had 8 cats and the loss of each one hit hard nonetheless, we are down to just 4 now, but they are all individual characters and an integral part of the family.

I hope Cici improves and gets to come home soon. Life without cats feels empty.

According to  Marina they are a specialist Hospital. What's worrying no one seems to know what wrong with her.Yet shes gone through  most of her life with very little  illness. It came on fairly quickly. At first we thought she was missing  Poppy. She was not herself, normally she likes to talk and enjoys company. Both of which were lacking.

I still miss my old cat Whisky who unfortunately came to a not nice end by being hit on the road by a vehicle.   He was 11, independent old puss he was,  no trouble all of his life.    When I live on my own he was always there when I got home,  I ran two jobs and whether it was at 5.15 from the day job or 11.30 from the evening one he was always there waiting.    Cats are lovely.

Keep us posted and I just hope and pray your little friend makes it home again.

I believe the hospital you are referring to is the Royal Veterinary  College which  I know very well having once lived in Brookmans Park for many years. If this is the case  be assured your cat is in very good hands, their reputation is second to none.  I hope she makes a full and speedy recovery, It is very distressing to lose a much loved pet and I feel for you.

I spoke to  Marina earlier ,sorry to say Cici has got Cancer of the throat and it's fairly advanced. What surprised me it was only noticeable recently, and she went down hill fast.We are going up tomorrow to say goodbye. We are heartbroken, losing both cats within two months is almost unbearable. Poppy  had a long life and was partly expected  but Cici being younger, appeared in good health. I dont know what else to say.

Really sorry to hear your news. Takes me back to when our dog Marvin got diagnosed with a throat cancer. We kept him going for some weeks with medication, as he was still eating, but after that he went downhill fast. During the last few days before we took him to the vets to say goodbye our elderly cat Swnyn spent quite a bit of time curled up beside him. A year ago we had to say goodbye to Swnyn too.
Our pets give us so much.

Ian and Marina,

my thoughts and the love of my 4 rescue cats is with you at this difficult time.

the only thing worse than a sudden shock is the gradual deterioration with age that leads to the passing of a dear pet, we had one who got frailer and eventually went blind, yet still coped, at the end she took a sudden downward turn and stopped eating and drinking, we resolved to take her to the vets the next morning, but she passed peacefully in my arms while we were waiting for the vets to open.

we have taken in quite a few older cats, and this particular one managed 18 years of age, and I can guarantee that at least the last 8 of those were spent happily with my family, our eldest cat was 24 when he passed, once again peacefully.

cats particularly are good at hiding their illnesses, it is only once they start to rapidy take a downturn that they let us see they are suffering, so dont blame yourself for not noticing, we didnt notice ours was going blind until someone moved something and she walked into it

Do you know what I find really offensive is when someone says something along the lines of "It's just an animal" They're not though are they. They are members of the family who show you complete and unconditional love. Your memories of them stay with you forever and never forgotten just as a family member should be

Sorry to read about Macie dog Griff, our condolences to you and Ms G

The only time I saw my mum REALLY cry and break down was the day we lost our old mongrel dog Paddy. Not at losing him, but after a neighbour met her in the street, and seeing her a bit teary, and hearing the reason, said, " Well, it's only a dog, why are you so upset?". She came home and cried her dear heart out.

My daughter has a much loved Shia Tzu named Lulu who will be 16 this year. Coincidentally  she shares her birthday with both myself and my son-in-law. She is now very deaf and almost blind,  but is still  very active and  manages to give the young , boisterous Boston Terrier acquired last year a run for his money.  I know when anything does happen to her the whole family will be distraught. Really sorry to hear about Cici. I imagine most of us have known the heartbreak of losing a much loved pet and know only too well just how heart breaking it is, I certainly do . I still mourn the passing of Toby my Cocker Spaniel after 35 years! and as for the loss 20 years ago of  my  much loved Alexandrine parrot who was hostile to everyone and everything other than me - dont' ask!

Marina and I got home from the hospital just over an hour ago.The hospital were very good, the vet explained what would happen. After some paper work he brought Cici in.At first she was stressed, thankfully soon she relaxed and sat with us from some time. She was clearly happy we was there with her.As agreed when the time was right the vet slowly put her to sleep. We asked about Cici cancer  if he knew how long she had it.He said it was hard to tell it may of started small, then grown fast. All we were aware of that she was not like herself in the last two, three weeks.Overall not a nice experience, but we were glad we spent time with her before she went.It was clear she was happy to be with us.

Life is sometimes unfair, Poppy went on the 22 December  She was 19 years old,and had health problems. Not nice losing her,but partly expected. Cici during her life suffered few health problems until this. Both were in there own way big characters .They are sadly missed, always remembered.

We said some time ago, we wouldn't get a dog until we retire, let's see and a car.We both need time to adjust.

Marina and I are very thankful for all your kind thoughts and wishes.

Regards Ian.
