Thurne Mill

I went to the grand re-opening day when they recommissioned the 'Mill' and got the sails turning and the pump going for the first time since its restoration a few years ago now.  However whilst they had excavated the dyke leading to the pump, they had left the last two feet of silt / soil in place acting as a damn to keep the pump dry whilst it was restored.  No one had thought to remove it before the big day.  I had to borrow a spade and get into the dyke to dig away the remaining couple of feet of soil to allow the water in the dyke to flow into the pump vanes.  It was a memorable day all round.
