Morse Control System

Researching my Morse control system online I keep seeing the phrase ' lost motion' . Does anyone know what this means in the context of control systems ?

the Volvo system use ds units for gear, but a 'lost motion' link with two throttle cables on each engine..........

' lost motion'  I think is possibly something to do with activity or lack of it between control lever and gearbox ?

looking on this page the lost motion seems to be for dual position helms, and the units require to be in neutral before engaging the second unit, the parts are shown here

"lost motion" is something you find a day later in the back of your socks after it fails to engage reverse in a close manouvering situation in a strong breeze.

Lost Motion, this term can best be explained by the motion of the control lever, is"Lost" by the time it reaches the other end.

Usually caused by lots of little bits of slack in joints etc.

Hi You may find it refers to the slotted control on duel control there are two slotted bars when one is pulled the motion is lost in the parallel one as the pine slides up the slot and is lost it is then returned by a spring you can then pull the other one with out affecting the parole one . John
