The big question is, where are the bits???? Time for a heat exchanger cleanout methinks..... An any oil coolers along the plumbing.

The bits! Had a wild time on my beta marine Engine cleaning the heat exchanger and more importantly keeping it water tight due to really rubbish access. 
Now I change the impeller every season

They can really cause grief with outboards being raw water cooled when they break up. Blocked tale tales, jammed themostats and bits all over the cooling water courses. I too chànged it every season.

We also have the impeller replaced as part of the winter service.

I might add that we have only recently purchased the boat so it was an inherited negligence, having been a boat owner for 10yrs or more changing the impeller would be an annual event.
