Maypole Group Sold

It’s no great surprise but now its official – Marco Pierre White has bought the Maypole Group. Hopefully this should secure the future of the excellent Bridge Inn at Acle and the other pubs and hotels in the chain. Hopefully good news for all the management and staff too, as well as the customers!

Thank god it was`nt bought by Heston Blumentile, as the thought of having to order Snail and Pineapple souffle, accompanied by strawberry and vanilla covered sprouts would be a bit scary :lol: . At least you`ll be able to get Michelin star standard food on the Broads?. Regards to all ..................... Neil.

We stayed in Lavenham (Suffolk) recently and spent drinking time in the Angel pub. They were also part of the Maypole group and the Manager/Chef told us that Marco was buying the group as an investment. NOT for him to cook in! (Sorry, Bill!)

Still great news and good to know that we'll see Phil and Ness again in early May en-route Wroxham. :clap:clap:clap

Marco's prices even in Wheelers of St. Jamses are just on the right side of regular monthly eating out (as opposed to special occasion) so at least there should be no silly increases because of the "name" association. Good luck with the new regime.

Hi to everyone on the forum!

Thought it was about time you heard from the horses mouth about all things Marco!

There will be changes at the bridge but only on the cosmetic side, as in new furniture, play area outside being renewed and general bits and pieces to run this place more smoothly.

Marco is happy with us to get on with running the pub as it has been and is very happy with the job we do!But anything we can be helped with is always welcomed.

The summer menu started today along with the return of bargain baskets, so we are not going gourmet and will not be charging £6 a pint (even though its getting that way with Enterprise beer prices).

Myself, Vanessa and the staff are looking forward to the year ahead now, after uncertain times, and seeing some familiar faces again!

As our menu says "Family pub with great grub"

PS. Thank you to Griff and Nog for being my PAs

"Dont believe the hype!" as Public Enemy once said.

Hi Phil

Many thanks for the update and glad to hear that the winning formula is not changing at the Bridge! Gave you a bell last week but just missed you but I imagine things are pretty hectic at the moment to say the least! Hope you have a great season (which I know you will) and we’ll be back to annoy you in June (can’t wait). All the best to Ness and the staff.
