Oddfellow
Here's my Ocsulati filter which I suspect is the same as Cambridge Cabbies. The centre turret does not permit large river weed through. The long-leaved stuff just gets stuck in this "pre-filter" and clogs the intake before it gets anywhere near the filter basket. What's worse is that the thing is a bitch to pull any weed out of as it breaks, you need a small pick hook and so on. The only real way is to disconnect the intake hose. That's awful too as the body of this filter feels a durable as a Mars Bar that you have screwed a brass hose spigot into. Wrestling with 1 1/2 inch hose on this does not fill you any confidence that you won't strip the threads in the housing. Basically, if this is what's fitted to strain raw engine water, it needs ripping out and having a proper one (for that read expensive) fitted. I would also be having words with whichever "professional" that fitted it.
