Important Question. Struggling To Find An Answer

Good question. I normally leave mine closed when leaving the boat because in the insurance policy it said to leave curtains closed when leaving the boat for a period of time. I probably need to check that is still the case, but it was when I first took the policy out. Also leaving the curtains closed stops the fabrics and upholstery fading in the sunlight. However I'm sure it would be better to leave the curtains open in the Winter to allow what little sunlight we get to warm the boat more and keep the condensation at bay.

We had a fitted top cover made a few of years ago, so the contents of the boat are hidden from prying eyes.  If I didn't have it, I would keep the curtains closed.  As well as keeping the topsides clean, which was the main reason for buying it, the cover also keeps the interior warmer and dryer and also prevents UV degradation of curtains and soft furnishings.

Cover your soft furnishing with loose sheets as seen in stately homes

Leave curtains open for ventilation and a visual means of showing that there is little of value to to steal.

If items of value on view. For example expensive navigation equipment, install a confirmed intruder alarm, the emphasis on confirmed.
