Slipway Photos

I'm looking for photos of the various slipways around the Broads so that I can plan a trail and sail trip next year. Are there any photos anywhere? Is this a suitable place to encourage people to share photos of slipways?

Hi and welcome. Someone will no doubt be along soon with more information. It might help us a but if we knew how big the boat you want to slip is.

This is the one at Thurne Dyke. But yes, if you could give a bit more information regarding the boat and maybe the vehicle you would use if towing a trailer in case the approach to the slipway is a bit tight. 

There's a Parish one at Horning next to the Swan and one at Upton Dyke. I think a few boatyards have one too - Martham and Sutton spring to mind.

Thanks for your replies. 

It's a Kittiwake. 14ft gaff cutter yawl rig dinghy. 21ft ish overall when put together. Tow with SUV. 

We've used the public slipways at Horning and South Walsham. They're both ideal but we can't drop the mast quickly to see other areas. Easier to use various slipways to overcome the bridges. 

Does anyone have any pics of Sutton and Martham please? How do they rate?

Wayford Marine have a slipway that I'm fairly sure you can use for a fee(ring to check, I might be wrong!) I don't have a picture but you won't struggle with that size of rig, they use a tractor n boat lift combo to launch/recover 40 footers on it...

Marthams slipway is excellent, concrete all the way.

If you fancy the southern rivers there is the public slipway at Oulton Broad. It's long and, once again, concrete all the way down. Access is good as well.

Derby's Quay at Beccles also have a slipway.  I have seen them take 35+' boats out.  Probably charge you

but they are friendly helpful guys there.  Worth ringing them.

We have used the slipway at Sutton previously. Nice easy slipway to launch and recover from.

There is a bit of step at the bottom of that one though I seem to remember? The concrete doesn't go quite as deep as you expect.

It depends on the river level. Most slipways have a step at the end Upton Horning staithe  Wayford marine and Thurne are all examples of this. As long as the water is high enough you will be fine.

Thanks for the photo of Martham. There are lots of slipway resources online but a photo and first hand experience is really useful. 

Sutton, Martham and Horning give us good coverage.

The best question I even heard about slipways was "do you have to reverse down?"

On the South Broads, Rockland St Mary, which adjoins Rockland Broad has a slipway that would be OK for a 14 ft boat. It is very popular with canoes and paddle boarders.

The photo is taken from our boat which is moored stern on to the public mooring.

This was us coming back out at Sutton. Plenty of room for the car and trailer as well.
