Typical of (UNELECTED) Authority. Now they`ll have to spend more of the navigation budget to have a new sign made so as to "simpify things".

2.5 Cables?, far too technical for me John :oops::lol::lol: .

Ah, you have missed the point here.. with an added 200K to the administrative budget at Dragonfly House they have now managed to employ a planning manager. Obviously following a full consultation it was felt that placing a sign anywhere than where placed would have been detrimental to the surrounding area and may have posibly obscured the view to the abbey for anyone using the adjacent footpath, therefore, once the site was identified (And not before a full study of all other potential sites was no doubt carried out...) this was agreed as the best location.

Following on from this, it may have been suggested that a diving team be employed in order to move the underwater obstruction - in this case the stones - a full 500m further downstream, but after a number of high level committee meetings this may have been deemed a waste of resources that could no doubt be better direct to something like 'Improving the footpaths for walkers'.. instead a 'bespoke' sign was felt the best cost option...

Therefore the sign becomes a compromise between planning and resources...

Or am I just being a little synical??? :naughty:

My point was "Why such useless numbers?" :norty::norty::norty:

500 yards I can equate to but 457m leaves me cold! :naughty::naughty::naughty:

(Unless, as I did, I get my calculator out and work out just what they mean!).

"Beaurocratic Nonsense" comes to mind................. :cry:cry:cry

Well I approve of accuracy and am heartened that at last certain authorities in this country are embracing the metric measurement ..... at last anyone under 40 + visitors from abroad will understand the information provided.

OK a few old f***t's might be confused ...... but then I suspect that has nothing to do with the unit of measurement.

:clap

Well then why don't they go the whole hog and use a sensible number, like 400 0r 500?

Here’s a whacky idea, I know it may sound a bit silly and contains no conspiracy theory or anything of that ilk but please bear with me. I wonder if you travel in the direction of the arrow there are submerged stones, then, when you have transversed a distance of four hundred and fifty seven metres the submerged stones are no longer a hazard. I suppose the truth is that the people who erected the sign are also those who plotted to blow up parliament, murder Sloanie Di and assassinated JFK though. So I must be wrong in thinking it’s just a warning sign helpfully placed there to help prevent damage to ones ship and nothing more. :naughty:

But David, at no point does it say that there are no more stones after 457m. In my view this sign has been placed, after a large brown envelope was passed by a company close to the site and specialising in fiberglass repairs who are in possession of the knowledge of further stones and that forewarned mariners will draw the conclusion that once past the signed stones they can relax only to run aground on the stones at 482m from the sign.

It's a conspiracy I tell you.

Ah, but it could easily be argued that the sign, by implication means that said stones only exhist for four hundred and fifty seven metres and it is safe to navigate close to the bank after that so a suit claiming compensation for any damaged caused would stand a better than fair chance as the erectors of the sign are at least partially liable as the sign does not say “but there may be some after that†therefore any such scheme would be counter productive.

I would counter that wit one word "politics" the brown envelope contents will be put to good use by the recipient and once its contents have expired it will be replenished with a further wedge alleged to have come from two prominent firms of lawyers, one a blame claim culture vulture and the other a large firm of barristers hired to defend the case.

All losses come from a different budget titled public purse.
