Polly
It’s a Skoda Octavia 2019 model. There are 4 rear parking sensors and one is bleeping red with nothing behind the car. I cleaned it with WD 40, even tried a hairdryer on it. This has come on since I jet washed the car last weekend. My brother suggested covering it with duck tape, and that has worked as a temporary fix. Any ideas for a more permanent solution? Help? 😘
Chelsea14Ian
Any advice in the hand book or checking with Skoda?
Polly
None in the handbook. I rang the garage, they said book it in....now that is a last resort because the ££££££ implications are a definite thing with that dealership.
NeilB
We had a 3 year warranty on our Skoda, is yours still covered?

Help? 😘 Fairly certain it will be water ingress as the result of pressure washing. I occasionally get this when I’ve washed my Octavia, but it usually goes away after a couple of hours. I fear that applying WD40 may have made it worse, but covering it with duct tape will make the sensor believe that there is something there and will not improve the issue. Skodas are covered by a three year warranty, so going to your local agent would be best.
Smoggy
Duck tape will also hinder it drying out.
OldBerkshireBoy
Park the rear of the car in sunshine and dont blast the bumper with a jet wash again.
floydraser
This is just one reason I never use a jet wash. The others being the noise, the faff with the electrics and the fact that a normal hose delivers more water quickly. A quick pre-rinse softens any mud which will then come off easy with a brush. Jet wash around the engine can also cause belts to slip. I used to have one but binned it as a waste of time.
ranworthbreeze
WD40 should never be used on any form of electronics, as already stated it causes more problems than it fixes.

I never knew this stuff existed until I went looking for something to clean the sliding volume controls on an old Bontempi organ: https://www.screwfix.com/p/wd-40-specialist-contact-cleaner-400ml/92716
ranworthbreeze
I always recommend no sprays of any kind they always leave a residue.

I think in this case it will have sealed the moisture in, rather than let it evaporate away.
Polly
🙄So I went to Indispension in Northampton this morning and they traced the fault. It was in my brain!! The towbar cap was a bit skewed and the sensor was picking it up. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

WherryNice
My Safari might sprout a reverse cam at some point but it's quite a way down the list behind such things as an engine that runs properly and windows that don't leak......etc etc
