Thatched Cottages Around Broads

I do like to see when I'm Boating around the Broads Thatched Cottages along the river from Old to New ones being built do they have to be rethached every Ten Year's or is it longer?

from what I know, its only the ridge that needs replacing every 10-15 years, the bulk of the roof should last about 40 years as long as the ridge has been properly maintained, this might vary with the quality of material used and the proficiency of the thatchers.
