Hi it will give more positive steering there is no free play not sure about feel mine just turns immediately i turn the wheel, i remember my sisters boat when she first got it the steering was all over the place you could move the wheel a half turn before anything happened the arm was worn replaced with hydrolic is was finger light.if you do decide on hydrolic suggest you get a demo on how to attach the ends to the plastic hoses as its not obvious at first site, other wise very easy.  John
