WHERRY HOTEL

hi all we were thinking of staying at the wherry hotel at oulton sometime in november for the night, but i went on to the reviews section about them, & it gave out quite alot of bad reviews, from the staff being slow at serving food to the management not caring & the rooms being very outdated, ive seen the downstairs bars & imust admit it did need updating, has anyone ever stayed there ? & IS the service really that bad ? lori

I've not stayed there Lori, but I have visited (as a customer), and have to say that I was not impressed.

Certainly not on my 'I will visit again list'

Hi Lori, Same as Dave here, every time we are there we pop in for the night and a meal and rags me the fact that even though we will spend upwards of £80 on meals and a drink you still have to pay moorings!!! Never found them friendly just the same sort of nothing customer service you seem to get everywhere these days. I had a look at the reviews also and to be honest I wouldn't waste your money. saying that I'm popping in the end of this week so will let you know if anything has changed as understood it was under new management so I could be slating them unfairly but will let you know if I can extract a smile out the bar staff )

thanks guys, is there any other hotels on the south that you or anyone could recomend ? we've tried wroxham hotel & hubby was'nt impressed with the carpark, it had glass everywhere, so he could'nt settle at night thinking his car would be broken into, i'd have thought that the hotel would have had their own car park, we had thought about horning hotel, but it looks like they share their carpark too, so i thought we'd try somewhere different. lori

Hi Lori

There is the Ivy House Hotel which is lovely and has a fantastic restaurant however I imagine pricier than the Wherry, however at this time of the year may have offers. There is also a very nice looking guesthouse opposite the Wine Lodge, the Mill House which looks nice and clean

Or you could stay on the seafront at Lowestoft, only one stop on the train from Oulton Broad. The Hotel Victoria is very popular, whilst we haven't stayed there, we have done loads of weddings and always been impressed by the service, food and cleanliness of the place.

We had some friends stay at the Wherry some time ago, and although they upgraded to 'deluxe' were less than impressed with the room. The carvery however is very good.

I do have to say guys,

the Wherry is under new management and is closing over the winter for refurbishment, and I frequently eat there now and very much enjoy the food.

Don't be so harsh to judge the new regieme on that of the old...

but however if you've visited this year then you may have sampled it under the current folks...
