William92
This is where I'll put photos I've taken when afloat, in case I do any further holiday blog threads, I can just associate each one with a new post in here to keep the photos all in one place... This first post will just be from last week, the associated blog thread is - My main interest is in wildlife, which can be tricky with composition/can be a bit documentarian, especially when passing it at 4mph... I struggled with the layout of the boat, having an angled windscreen ahead (causing bizarre aberrations) and no simple way to point the camera forwards (even poking out of the cabin hatch in the bow would have captured the rail) was a pain. Next year's boat will have an upper deck! Then I won't only be able to take photos after passing stuff or by leaning out over the side (which, with a lens that cost me about 1 week's boat hire in itself, took bravery). I've also taken some other photos which were more opportunistic. All photos (at the moment) are just .jpg's straight from my camera. I have RAW images but dealing with those often feels like work - I will get around to those if the in-camera jpgs aren't quite up to snuff but the photo has promise! Talking of the camera, it's a Pentax K-5ii dSLR, so the autofocus is not always there for me. I've got more "keepers" this year than last year though! The lens I used most of the time was Pentax's 150-450mm zoom, certainly in the following pics in this post! Without any more waffle... This particular Marsh Harrier was travelling the same way as me, at about the same speed, and was doing a spectacular job. I missed the best photo opportunity because I was just gaping at the view. The last one I'll share for now - the only one I got of the kingfisher I saw this year up at Hoveton Great Broad. A kingfisher at a local country park is what caused me to finally commit to buying this lens, and this is the first kingfisher I've been able to shoot since that fateful day in 2022. I'm still waiting to get a good photo of a kingfisher, it seems! 10
