Bill! I have to admit there was an element of luck involved, The first boat at 13k was a lot of money for a boat that needed at least £3k spending on it just to make it a tidy boat, the next two we just couldn't get hold of the owners and then I found out more info on the MkIII at 16k, I was told the guy refused to negotiate on price, the boat had been up for sale for at least two years and also it had taken on a lot of water at some point, someone here mentioned one at Potter for 12k so we went to look at that one and it also needed 3/4k spending on that, and as we were walking away we saw Crackers that came in on wednesday and hadn't been put on the books or Photo's taken, it was up for £14,950 and was a good buy at that price but Judi got it down to 14K, looking at the ones we saw I reckon I could re-sell it tomorrow for 16/17k it's a real beauty and needs very minor stuff doing to it, I think £50 would cover the lot, it has a pump out toilet, heating the works, and you could eat your lunch off the engine, as I mentioned before it was like it was meant to be,,,,

An element of luck you say?, is there any chance you could pick my Euromillions numbers for me this week?:lol::lol::lol: . I`ve just gone back through the posts above and i found out it was me that mentioned the £12k one at Potter, so i`m really happy it turned out so well for you. Good luck with her, and happy cruising. Regards ................. Neil

Neil! I guess I owe you one then cheersbar but on the downside I think I got conned with Crackers, today I went through the boat with a fine toothed comb checking everything, and found a couple of major faults, you just can't trust these brokers, the windsheild wiper switch dosn't work and neither does the toilet flush switch, I just has to go out and spend £8.45 putting the boat right :o I've a good mind to phone the broker and give him a piece of my mind, as I checked them before I picked the boat up and they worked, on the upside I dipped the tank and it has a full tank of diesel, at this rate it's going to cost me at least £10 to put this boat right,,

HMMMMMMMMM, i was always told "Never look a gift horse in the mouth", so taking that advice, there`s a couple of Aquafibre Lowliner 38s for sale on NYA`s site, one of those should do very nicely thanks Frank :lol::lol: .

Bit of an odd layout on that one, an "L" shaped settee fwd, a single settee (probably converting to double berth) amidships, and the toilet and galley aft. I`m not sure i like that, though it`s basically the same as Swallow, which we`ve hired from Maffett cruisers, but Swallows double is fixed, and in a seperate central cabin. There`s another 2 on NYA`s website, one of which looks exactly the same as the one we looked at which was sold the next day (not to us sadly) last June. With those hull rubbing strakes from bow to stern, it looks like another that was built by Johnson`s yacht station at St Olaves. I was reliably informed all those ex Johnsons Hamptons were very well built to last. Another give away is the circular shelves over the engine cover. I`ve seen 3 of those St Olaves hamptons, with full length rubbing strakes, and they`ve all had those curved shelves. I think (though i may be wrong?) they were all called "San Remo" or "San Telmo". I`m not going to say anymore, or people will think i`m a closet "Safari spotter":lol::lol::lol: .

Just checked and Crackers was first known as Lady Lorna and owned by L.L. Cruisers in 1977, in 1998 it became Goya Girl 1 and was owned by Summercraft who sold it to a private buyer in 2001, then sold again around 2006/8 to the person we bought it from, looking at the boat is has been very well looked after, and I have a idea that it has had a recent new/recon engine as it is spotless, all the pipework, cableing, filters pumps all look like they have just come off the shelf, I'm going to try and find out more about the boat it's just knowing where to start,,,,

Neil! that looks a nice tidy little boat, and if we had seen that first I think we may have gone for it, but now having Crackers and looking at that one I don't like the layout, nothing wrong with it but it dosn't work for me,,,

I don`t much like it myself either Frank, but it does have its advantages. First off is the toilet/shower compartment being aft, makes for a very convenient "wet locker" for oil skins etc, and the galley being aft means there should be less cooking smells etc throughout the boat (well, in theory anyway), plus there would be less gas piping to run from the aft gas locker, theoretically meaning less possible chance of a gas leak.

The only way i think the layout of the Safari could be improved is to mount the engine right aft under the stbd deck, move the bed fwd a little bit, and make a slightly smaller more square shaped toilet compartment, meaning you would`nt have the engine box in the way, and it would also allow the fitment of a longer more continuous galley and worktop, right up to the helm position. Hmm, maybe i should have been a boat designer?.

Hi Frank

If I remember correctly LL Cruisers stopped trading summer of 87 and Summer craft ran the fleet until the end of the summer. They then purchased the yard, most of the boats and one cottage, flattened the boatshed and built another cottage.

I did hear a little while ago that the BA were supposed to be putting a stop via planning application rejections, to people doing that, as it`s taking away a vital resource which was becoming a serious limiting factor moorings wise. It sounds like exactly the same is going to happen to the north bank yards of "Hampton`s", the former "Pegasus yachts" and "Topcraft cruisers at Oulton Broad.

Neil I'm pretty sure they have started the demo or groundworks on those because the diggers were working there the other day, I can't rememberwhere I heard it but it was in the last week or two, I was told it was going to be a luxury Flat complex,

Also I just got the Reg Docs back and it has the previous owners address on, so i'm going to write to him and see if he can tell me the history since he owned it and what he had done in the way of work, I know he comes from Durham and is retired which could explain why the boats in such good condition and dosn't look like it's had a lot of use, also I want to know about the Shiney Engine that looks like it just came off the shelf,

What engine is it Frank?. If it`s a Perky 4108, or BMC 1.5, John Cressy at Maffett cruisers specialises in them, so if you have any probs, give them a call.

There`s actually 3 Hampton Safari`s for sale on NYA`s website, 2 on Waterside Marines, and still the ones at Beccles, and probably the one that Richardsons are selling, so you be spoilt for choice now. Now that Karen and i`ve deided not to buy one of our own till i retire, there`s loads of them . Bloody typical of my luck :cry:cry:cry .
